The Untitled RAW Stills - submission deadline - Sunday July 25th

so I talked about doing something where we, denizens of ILP, could pass around pictures from our collection for each other to interpret and postprocess. it would be interesting and instructive, I think, to see how others view our own work! so far I've been thinking about the logistics of it and this is what I've come up:

-photo should be provided in both a RAW file (perhaps we should specify DNG?) and a JPEG file.
-the JPEG file would, ideally, be straight from the camera - if not possible, then should be from a straight conversion using a RAW program of your choice, without any changes to any settings.
-for collecting the files, I've opened a google account. I'm still not sure what the best way to go about collecting everybody's files is, but I thought we could all maybe e-mail our files to this account, and then I would provide the password to everybody and everybody could login and access the files. if there's a better way to do this (Google Docs?) I'd love to know!
-if anybody has any issues with intellectual property/copyright, please let me know! hopefully we can find a workaround.
-for displaying the final images - maybe a Flickr group?

that's it for now - putting this out there to get some feedback from all of you. if we all reach consensus, hopefully we can get started in a few days time.

This is good. I'm in the midst of processing my first solo wedding shoot (i.e. in those scant few hours of non-work/non-family time) but give me a few days and I'll have something for yous.

If we put them on Flickr (or even here for discussion), that's also a possibility. Just one of the things that goes along with photography in this era.

Best protection method is for everyone to not put up any images that we might want to sell/publish/etc. at a later date.

Sounds fine. If uploading RAW, what is the purpose of the jpg and can I make it small/low quality?

I also apologize in advance for lack of post-processing skills. I'll set an evening aside and read up.

no purpose - not everybody on the forum shoots RAW, so I wanted to give non-RAW shooters a chance to participate as well

I just remembered - I think I asked for a JPG because I don't think everybody here is using a program capable of handling RAW files? Is there anybody who will be postprocessing with something other than Lightroom/Aperture/Photoshop?

I'd also be open to extending the submission deadline, if people need more time!

Couldn't seem to choose from old photos so just picked one fairly randomly from a handful of snaps I took today in the local park. CR2/DNG/JPEG - on its way to that gmail address now.

Away for a few days now but interested to see what we have next week...

But the beach shot in particular was ideal! I've even had people favouriting it in my photostream! Had to explain that I didn't take it...

This is why i set up another account, didn't want to confuse people and myself.

Also, if someone said "this is the best shot you've ever taken, miles better than your usual stuff" i don't know what i'd do :(

Ha! I actually manually hacked the upload dates/times on my previous batch of photos so they'd move back to the top of the photostream, but the damage was done and I was getting plenty of love meant for darraghmac, sciolism and dyao!

new a/c seems the way forward. impressive PS work, sciolism! definitely enjoyed this, would be up for it again.

Enjoyed it as well, has given me a kick up the bum to get my head around PS, i'm alright with LR, but PS is another level to me.

Yeah, thanks to dyao for doing this.
My attempts last night were done as a batch in Lightroom - i.e., I came up with a preset of my own and applied to all the images. Which is how I tend to use Lightroom!
I spent a little while with a couple of images in Photoshop today, dealing with them individually, but they need a bit more time if I were going to put them up.

going to be a few days until i can get to this. not letting myself see the finals until then.

Who's not had a go at processing yet?

We can also set up something here on ILX to make all this easier. Photo upload or FTP and then some kind of gallery app installed? Will look into it.

I've started taking a second bite at the cherry with the images, now that I have more time to look at each individual image.
I just uploaded my second attempt at milo's image. It turned out a bit more extreme than I intended, really.
