Any excuse to watch this again.

Great free kick, not sure about this "upper 90" term instead of the traditional "postage stamp" or even "top corner".

Is that Tim Lovejoy MLS show still on?

Conference finals are set:

K.C.@Houston

NE looked assy in their 1-0 win over New York. Aside from the fact that the Fire have to play in their huge, empty stadium, on turf, I think they have a great shot of breaking the playoff curse vs. the Revs. Houston should roll over KC.

Similarly, if Riquelme plays for Argentina in its June 8 friendly against the U.S. at Giants Stadium, all it will take for him to reject any move is one look at the dreadful, patched-up, threadbare, NFL-logoed carpet that passes for a soccer field at the Meadowlands.

LOL:

In a pair of sweeping changes brought about by a Major League Soccer season in meltdown, the Los Angeles Galaxy today removed Alexi Lalas as team president and general manager and Ruud Gullit as coach.

In its official statement on the changes, AEG, which owns the team, said that Gullit had resigned "for personal reasons" and that Lalas' contract was up at the end of the year and that the team decided to part company now rather than wait.

Lalas has been a tool since at least 1998, when he was briefly a MetroStar. Then he came back nearly a decade later to sell us out to Red Bull, uh I mean, help the team "transition".

The B|gS0cc3r dorks have been speculating that Gullit, at least, was going to leave since he put his house up for sale a couple of weeks ago. Really, though, it's not his fault. Lalas spent stupidly, and even though the league looks the other way at their salary cap issues, they still can't defend worth a shit (in a league known for lousy D to begin with).

I watched the youtube of that last night, pretty amazing. Who says playing on turf over concrete doesn't pay off once in a while?

I'm dragging ass after a weekend of MLSing myself after traveling to Toronto with Chicago supporters this weekend. Despite only spending about 24hrs there, it's a nice city and has a notch higher intensity atmosphere at game time than what I'm used to. Pretty amazing swing on the extremes of behavior there, from being presented with a banner by a TFC fan group to having small objects thrown at us from outside the stadium.

Also some people decided taunting us by chanting "we have healthcare" would be pretty funny.

not wrong there. overstuffed w/ teams and wouldn't mind seeing contraction.

also wouldn't mind seeing League's Cup fail and glad to see that it still isn't quite taking off the way Garber wants. attendance has improved this year but is still about 3,000/match under regular season numbers, whereas in a tournament that's supposed to be as elite as Donny Boy claims, you'd want to see the opposite - attendance spiking!

I went to Orlando's last League's Cup match after having sold my tickets to the previous two, for only one reason, which is wanting desperately to see live soccer, because due to conflicts and/or illness I'd missed the last FIVE matches across all competitions (by far my worst attendance as a season ticket holder). and it was just garbage.

going to PKs with no extra time (which I realize the Copa does too now prior to the final) is ridiculous, it just rewards whichever team is overmatched playing for PKs without having to worry about the tired legs that come w/ having to defend for another 30 minutes. kinda glad we got knocked out.

not wrong there. overstuffed w/ teams and wouldn't mind seeing contraction.

i love stuntpegg!! that vid is of orange county which plays in usl champsionship, the league of my hometown club (san antonio fc)

mls i dont think is really shedding its retirement league reputation, idk if thats fair but i dont care bc i root for their downfall. theres a shitload of teams and they will likely keep expanding until they reach 32 34 36 40 teams

big baby billy bass (m bison), Saturday, 17 August 2024 21:20 (two months ago) link

it shd also be mentioned that bc orange county are connected with rangers that i have a deep an unabiding hatred 4 them

big baby billy bass (m bison), Saturday, 17 August 2024 21:21 (two months ago) link

MLS was making some progress in shedding it by signing better talent in their prime, and reducing the amount of old legends that came into the league.

But the Messi fiasco was the worst example of backsliding into that reputation and just setting the league back a decade.

The expansion just diluted the product more, which is why strikers can effortlessly score goals because they're playing against CBs and RBs that are too afraid to engage and let them make the first move.

Exhibit A, Inter Miami, being atop the league despite conceding a horrific 1.5 goals/match, which is not good even by MLS standards.

Like I don't watch much of the league other than my own team but I often laugh at how poor the defending is when I do
