bloke on 606 just came out with this well-worn claim, and i wondered, what do you care more about, the club you support or the whole culture of Football as will and idea?

i really want to say "Wolves" but i'm worried the honest answer might be "Football"

this is a rather inane and apologetic as a phrase because he lacks the composure to admit he isn't that fond of any particular team, which on sports radio in phone ins is presumably like admitting to a lack of interest in the pope in 1980s poland

i have read that in the 1950s it was not uncommon for people to go to watch a team to watch an exciting player even if they weren't 'fans' to any great extent, if matthews or one of those grandees was ruled out before the game then the attendance would lessen substantially

i guess there's a modern equivalent in the way Sky especially sells the Premier League as a brand, albeit with a few designated top clubs, top players etc.

when somebody uses the phrase my first thought is along the lines of "not a 'real' football fan" but then i consider i probly spend almost as much time watching matches that don't involve Wolves as matches that do and i dunno, wd the addiction still exist without the original cause?
