literally pissing on the citizens of Liverpool

If I was him I'd be pretty fucked off at that reception, having carried Liverpool's attack virtually single-handedly all season. I know that Liverpool fans would sing the name of a crippled donkey if it committed its life to Anfield, and he's no doubt acting under terrible advice, but still.
I think they will hang onto him for another year, and he'll benefit for it. As it stands he is very good but not THAT good, and there's no obvious next move for him that doesn't potentially end with him spending much of the season on the bench if things don't go well.

dortmund giving lewandowski a payrise with a year remaining when they knew he would leave is a useful precedent, he played to his usual level for the rest of his time there, and as with sterling, he cost very little to begin with so it wasn't as if he owed them anything
if liverpool play it well and promise to let him leave next year (maybe with a payrise/bonus) then they should get a good year and then probably only marginally less money than they would if he were sold this offseason

Yeah I agree with that. He has the potential to become comfortably the best English footballer and, given he's only 20, potentially one of the better attacking footballers in Europe, but a bad move at this point could blow all that. Another year at Liverpool, with him playing somewhere other than CF, should benefit everyone concerned, including whichever club ends up signing him.

Sell him to City right now if they're as desperate for young English players as it seems and will stump up £45m.

Lol like Rodgers isn't going to piss that £45m away on dreck.
