Decided to bite the bullet. Haven't started a thread in many years.

Will Arsenal finally win the league? Will Liverpool be worse despite spending 200m? Will Man City get relegated due to 115 charges or grimly return to form? Will Man United stop being funny? Can even one promoted team stay up? How angry can Newcastle fans get?

Have at it!

LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:36 (eight months ago)

Something about Spurs. Setpieces/violent roughhousing?

LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:38 (eight months ago)

Finally, on the right board

imago, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:39 (eight months ago)

Hooray! Looking forward to watching MOTD with the boy and not otherwise engaging unless Liverpool win something and there's another parade.

Oh and beating that cunt from Mumford & Sons at FPL again. Is there an ILX FPL league out there?

Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:43 (eight months ago)

You won't watch it live? I have to say through a combo of getting older, TV subscriptions, Liverpool being fairly consistently good, and general ennui of life, I am prob deeper in than ever. Several podcasts a week, BT and Sky at home etc. Maybe also Liverpool finally winning the league then repeating it means football doesn't have the grinding painful anxiety it had every season when I was younger. I can enjoy it more.

LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:48 (eight months ago)

i look forward to another season of grinding painful anxiety

baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:51 (eight months ago)

Tbh after I posted that I started thinking how anxious I was even when we were miles ahead last year.

LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:55 (eight months ago)

I dunno, it's so hard to find a stream these days and I just have so much to do every Saturday anyway. Might be changing jobs soon though so maybe things will change a bit. It's something to talk about at family gatherings, though the family still in Liverpool either support Everton or Forest (long story)

Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:04 (eight months ago)

All three promoted teams to go straight back down for, I think, the third season in a row?

Have seen a couple of pundits tip Leeds to buck the trend at the expense of Wolves

groovypanda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:08 (eight months ago)

A couple of evil pundits.

Peter No-one (Tom D.), Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:16 (eight months ago)

Sunderland have spent loads also

LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:18 (eight months ago)

West Ham not great?

LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:18 (eight months ago)

West Ham will be fine I reckon. Brentford seem the best candidates to keep one of the new teams up but I doubt it tbh. I reckon City will win it. My football consumption (other than League 1) is just Second Captains and 3min highlights on YouTube

crisp, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:25 (eight months ago)

Brentford hiring Keith Andrews with zero management experience is a brave move (though to be fair he does have some assistant manager experience, though to be even fairer it was for MK Dons and they were relegated that season)

Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:30 (eight months ago)

Definitely a worry. He is red hot favourite to be sacked first.

LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:33 (eight months ago)

I wish Keith well obviously as long as he finishes below us

baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:39 (eight months ago)

Bournemouth have decided to set the fifa setting to ultimate for iriola and he's clearly done a great job but I think they'll struggle , same with forest. not enough to go down tho probably.

in amongst all the money lfc are throwing around I hope I've missed them extending konate's contract or are they going to let him leave for nothing next summer?
if lfc don't win tmrw then the winless in the league streak stretches to what 5 games?
slot out in that case.

oscar bravo, Thursday, 14 August 2025 20:21 (eight months ago)

I think city will be closer to last season version than 2019-2024 version.
think arsenal will win the league.

oscar bravo, Thursday, 14 August 2025 20:24 (eight months ago)

Sounds like Konate could be off. There were even a few rumours Real might try to buy him this summer.

LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 21:07 (eight months ago)

I think they need to keep him if at all possible. the way the team sets up this season him and vvd will have to do a tonne of one on one defending and I trust both of them to manage that, not sure anyone we've been linked with could cope as well. of course it helps to have allisson mind you.

oscar bravo, Thursday, 14 August 2025 21:13 (eight months ago)

I know it's twenty mins in but feel like there's not a lot of attacking coherence in Liverpool at all.

LocalGarda, Friday, 15 August 2025 19:23 (eight months ago)

Good game this.

Liverpool all over the place defensively

groovypanda, Friday, 15 August 2025 20:43 (eight months ago)

Never in doubt (that Mo would score in the opening game).

Maggy Scraggle, Friday, 15 August 2025 20:58 (eight months ago)

What a game. Unbelievably sad to see Mo crying at the final whistle as the whole stadium sings for Jota.

I think Liverpool's problem is midfield exposing the defence. Wirtz is quality but isn't going to do anything besides attack. Szobo at 8 is too undisciplined, and Gravy is suspended. That said, Konate was terrible tonight.

Ekitike looks brilliant tho, exciting player. Wirtz still settling but love how his first touch is almost always a pass.

Could be a mental season with this attacking setup but I hope they find a more controlled structure for the sake of my health.

LocalGarda, Friday, 15 August 2025 21:04 (eight months ago)

indisciplined*

LocalGarda, Friday, 15 August 2025 21:04 (eight months ago)

For three seasons we’ve had more points than any other team in this league, which is incredible. That’s how you have all the consistency. Now we have to do it in a season to have one more point or the same amount of points and more goals different than any other team. That’s the objective.”

apparently this isn't even true, man city have more, but also... this is why people dislike arteta. he makes it sound like they need to just flukily be top of the league when the season ends having done the harder bit of having a good average points score.

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 August 2025 09:47 (eight months ago)

not sure whether to watch this

looks like Martinez is suspended for Villa, wonder what happened there?

hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Saturday, 16 August 2025 10:49 (eight months ago)

Well yeah, he's done good tho

baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 11:59 (eight months ago)

Every pass is going wrong, this is getting tiresome. That said, the tempo is pretty crazy. Newcastle’s midfield get in there so fast

New goalie looks legit, this could be a big step up from Olsen

Windsor Davies, Saturday, 16 August 2025 12:07 (eight months ago)

Weird seeing both teams in the same colour shorts. What is this, Ted Lasso?

nashwan, Saturday, 16 August 2025 12:09 (eight months ago)

Classy celebrating like they've just won the league tho

baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:30 (eight months ago)

not sure there are many groups of fans who will relish hating one of their own players as much as newcastle fans will with isak.

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:32 (eight months ago)

if there's one thing Newcastle fans can't stand, it's Jamal Kashoggi's widow. But if there are two things they can't stand, you can add A Player That Doesnt Give His All For That Famous Black and White Shirt as well

hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:35 (eight months ago)

alan shearer - got newcastle relegated

alexander isak - won a trophy for newcastle for the first and last time in their history

yet the latter is the villain here???

Richarlison’s second goal was tremendous.

ShariVari, Saturday, 16 August 2025 15:22 (eight months ago)

Forget yer Arsenal v. Spurs or Chelsea v. Fulham or whatever, Newcastle v Sunderland games are going to give the Premier League a taste of a truly venomous derby.

Peter No-one (Tom D.), Saturday, 16 August 2025 15:39 (eight months ago)

Grant Xhaka as Sunderland captain should def help with that

Ward Fowler, Saturday, 16 August 2025 15:47 (eight months ago)

so wolves are going to beat man city 4-0 then

And suspend relegation too I suppose?

Clarinet Cop (Tom D.), Sunday, 19 April 2026 19:21 (one week ago)

I know this is not going to happen, but imagine if City win it with a game in hand, then the FFP judgement comes in, they get docked 100 points, they have to hand over the trophy to Arsenal and Spurs are saved from relegation.

Throw It Down Binman (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 19 April 2026 19:23 (one week ago)

the worst three teams in the league get relegated every year, i never had a problem with it before

at least one of them has usually been reffed like shit most of the season also as I understand it

wasn't sure if I should say anything but for the record, Spurs will tonk Wolves and then be gifted a 2-0 counter-attacking victory by a game but catastrophically distracted Aston Villa. Stick the house on it

Chelsea, very funny

Sgt. Biscuits, Tuesday, 21 April 2026 19:19 (five days ago)

tonking us isn't really a bold prediction but it should be a classic "stoppable force meets moveable object" tie

the Don King of donking (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 21 April 2026 19:20 (five days ago)

perhaps shades of that recent Onion article about some American sport game getting abandoned after both teams had failed to recover the ball for several hours

but no, 6 out of a possible 6 it is, then it's between God and West Ham Utd from there

Sgt. Biscuits, Tuesday, 21 April 2026 19:24 (five days ago)

Commiserations re: Wolves, hope they get themselves sorted and come back up btw

Sgt. Biscuits, Tuesday, 21 April 2026 19:27 (five days ago)

if i was betting then right now i'd be backing a double relegation, but i'll be huffing blind optimism until at least 2 games in. we're in a classic "impossible to tell if any of the current players are any good because of the whole shitshow" situation, and somehow this time i don't think we'll be signing the 2026 equivalents of Neves or Moutinho. come to think of it the 2026 Moutinho would probably still be in the starting 11 of this squad

the Don King of donking (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 21 April 2026 19:37 (five days ago)

you will not be double relegated. love, someone who has seen your next season's opposition sides of late

imago, Tuesday, 21 April 2026 19:39 (five days ago)

i keep asking myself if Leicester looked in notably worse shape at the end of last season than we do at the end of this one, and i'm not seeing it

the Don King of donking (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 21 April 2026 19:42 (five days ago)

Does this mean Brighton will be in the Champions League next season?

Clarinet Cop (Tom D.), Tuesday, 21 April 2026 20:03 (five days ago)

if they get top 5: yeah, if they finish 6th: only if Villa both win the Europa League and finish exactly 5th

Sgt. Biscuits, Tuesday, 21 April 2026 20:22 (five days ago)

OK, I lose track of how many English teams get to play in the Champions League, it seems to increase every year.

Clarinet Cop (Tom D.), Tuesday, 21 April 2026 20:35 (five days ago)

it's been 5 for the past two seasons because of English clubs' performance in Europe, with a 6th spot possible this year based on one permutation involving Villa and the Europa League but not some others

I think at one point it could have been 7 CL spots based on Liverpool winning it and finishing outside the top 6 and Forest winning Europa, with a theoretical maximum of 11 English teams in Europe overall. Football would presumably be finally swallowed up by hell in this scenario

Feels quite like Spurs, both in having an ill-assembled bunch of young players bought without much thought as to where they fit and in the hierarchy clearly giving the dressing room termination rights. idk why they gave him a six year deal.
