Decided to bite the bullet. Haven't started a thread in many years.
Will Arsenal finally win the league? Will Liverpool be worse despite spending 200m? Will Man City get relegated due to 115 charges or grimly return to form? Will Man United stop being funny? Can even one promoted team stay up? How angry can Newcastle fans get?
Have at it!
― LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:36 (six months ago)
Something about Spurs. Setpieces/violent roughhousing?
― LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:38 (six months ago)
Finally, on the right board
― imago, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:39 (six months ago)
Hooray! Looking forward to watching MOTD with the boy and not otherwise engaging unless Liverpool win something and there's another parade.
Oh and beating that cunt from Mumford & Sons at FPL again. Is there an ILX FPL league out there?
― Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:43 (six months ago)
You won't watch it live? I have to say through a combo of getting older, TV subscriptions, Liverpool being fairly consistently good, and general ennui of life, I am prob deeper in than ever. Several podcasts a week, BT and Sky at home etc. Maybe also Liverpool finally winning the league then repeating it means football doesn't have the grinding painful anxiety it had every season when I was younger. I can enjoy it more.
― LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:48 (six months ago)
i look forward to another season of grinding painful anxiety
― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:51 (six months ago)
Tbh after I posted that I started thinking how anxious I was even when we were miles ahead last year.
― LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 16:55 (six months ago)
I dunno, it's so hard to find a stream these days and I just have so much to do every Saturday anyway. Might be changing jobs soon though so maybe things will change a bit. It's something to talk about at family gatherings, though the family still in Liverpool either support Everton or Forest (long story)
― Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:04 (six months ago)
All three promoted teams to go straight back down for, I think, the third season in a row?Have seen a couple of pundits tip Leeds to buck the trend at the expense of Wolves
― groovypanda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:08 (six months ago)
A couple of evil pundits.
― Peter No-one (Tom D.), Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:16 (six months ago)
Sunderland have spent loads also
― LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:18 (six months ago)
West Ham not great?
West Ham will be fine I reckon. Brentford seem the best candidates to keep one of the new teams up but I doubt it tbh. I reckon City will win it. My football consumption (other than League 1) is just Second Captains and 3min highlights on YouTube
― crisp, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:25 (six months ago)
Brentford hiring Keith Andrews with zero management experience is a brave move (though to be fair he does have some assistant manager experience, though to be even fairer it was for MK Dons and they were relegated that season)
― Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:30 (six months ago)
Definitely a worry. He is red hot favourite to be sacked first.
― LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:33 (six months ago)
I wish Keith well obviously as long as he finishes below us
― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 14 August 2025 17:39 (six months ago)
Bournemouth have decided to set the fifa setting to ultimate for iriola and he's clearly done a great job but I think they'll struggle , same with forest. not enough to go down tho probably. in amongst all the money lfc are throwing around I hope I've missed them extending konate's contract or are they going to let him leave for nothing next summer?if lfc don't win tmrw then the winless in the league streak stretches to what 5 games?slot out in that case.
― oscar bravo, Thursday, 14 August 2025 20:21 (six months ago)
I think city will be closer to last season version than 2019-2024 version.think arsenal will win the league.
― oscar bravo, Thursday, 14 August 2025 20:24 (six months ago)
Sounds like Konate could be off. There were even a few rumours Real might try to buy him this summer.
― LocalGarda, Thursday, 14 August 2025 21:07 (six months ago)
I think they need to keep him if at all possible. the way the team sets up this season him and vvd will have to do a tonne of one on one defending and I trust both of them to manage that, not sure anyone we've been linked with could cope as well. of course it helps to have allisson mind you.
― oscar bravo, Thursday, 14 August 2025 21:13 (six months ago)
I know it's twenty mins in but feel like there's not a lot of attacking coherence in Liverpool at all.
― LocalGarda, Friday, 15 August 2025 19:23 (six months ago)
Good game this. Liverpool all over the place defensively
― groovypanda, Friday, 15 August 2025 20:43 (six months ago)
Never in doubt (that Mo would score in the opening game).
― Maggy Scraggle, Friday, 15 August 2025 20:58 (six months ago)
What a game. Unbelievably sad to see Mo crying at the final whistle as the whole stadium sings for Jota.
I think Liverpool's problem is midfield exposing the defence. Wirtz is quality but isn't going to do anything besides attack. Szobo at 8 is too undisciplined, and Gravy is suspended. That said, Konate was terrible tonight.
Ekitike looks brilliant tho, exciting player. Wirtz still settling but love how his first touch is almost always a pass.
Could be a mental season with this attacking setup but I hope they find a more controlled structure for the sake of my health.
― LocalGarda, Friday, 15 August 2025 21:04 (six months ago)
indisciplined*
For three seasons we’ve had more points than any other team in this league, which is incredible. That’s how you have all the consistency. Now we have to do it in a season to have one more point or the same amount of points and more goals different than any other team. That’s the objective.”
apparently this isn't even true, man city have more, but also... this is why people dislike arteta. he makes it sound like they need to just flukily be top of the league when the season ends having done the harder bit of having a good average points score.
― LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 August 2025 09:47 (six months ago)
not sure whether to watch this
looks like Martinez is suspended for Villa, wonder what happened there?
― hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Saturday, 16 August 2025 10:49 (six months ago)
Sent off at end of last season
― crisp, Saturday, 16 August 2025 10:56 (six months ago)

― hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Saturday, 16 August 2025 11:00 (six months ago)
Yeah i detected the note of fake insouciance
― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 11:05 (six months ago)
Not notably missing Martinez so far
― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 11:48 (six months ago)
new guy looks good so far. he's had more to do than I'd like
― hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Saturday, 16 August 2025 11:53 (six months ago)
Well yeah, he's done good tho
― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 11:59 (six months ago)
Every pass is going wrong, this is getting tiresome. That said, the tempo is pretty crazy. Newcastle’s midfield get in there so fast
New goalie looks legit, this could be a big step up from Olsen
― Windsor Davies, Saturday, 16 August 2025 12:07 (six months ago)
Weird seeing both teams in the same colour shorts. What is this, Ted Lasso?
― nashwan, Saturday, 16 August 2025 12:09 (six months ago)
Think Villa had a bit more impact in the last 5 minutes, hopefully they build on that
― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 12:17 (six months ago)
Welp, the Prem's back baby
― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:24 (six months ago)
newcastle could really use a prolific striker, you feel.
― LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:26 (six months ago)
Classy celebrating like they've just won the league tho
― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:30 (six months ago)
not sure there are many groups of fans who will relish hating one of their own players as much as newcastle fans will with isak.
― LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:32 (six months ago)
if there's one thing Newcastle fans can't stand, it's Jamal Kashoggi's widow. But if there are two things they can't stand, you can add A Player That Doesnt Give His All For That Famous Black and White Shirt as well
― hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:35 (six months ago)
alan shearer - got newcastle relegated
alexander isak - won a trophy for newcastle for the first and last time in their history
yet the latter is the villain here???
― LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 August 2025 13:40 (six months ago)
only one goal in the prem so far today and it's richarlison
― Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 16 August 2025 14:23 (six months ago)
Richarlison’s second goal was tremendous.
― ShariVari, Saturday, 16 August 2025 15:22 (six months ago)
Forget yer Arsenal v. Spurs or Chelsea v. Fulham or whatever, Newcastle v Sunderland games are going to give the Premier League a taste of a truly venomous derby.
― Peter No-one (Tom D.), Saturday, 16 August 2025 15:39 (six months ago)
Grant Xhaka as Sunderland captain should def help with that
― Ward Fowler, Saturday, 16 August 2025 15:47 (six months ago)

I'm enjoying this brief moment of respite trying to work out e.g. if West Ham are shit or not

Wolves playing p well so far

― baka mitai guy (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 August 2025 17:05 (six months ago)
keeper was terrible for that salah goal, tho he did okay to shuffle towards a shooting position.
― LocalGarda, Tuesday, 3 March 2026 22:02 (two days ago)
yeah he was bad but it was clever from Salah to go with the toe poke

just kept giving the ball away, worse when we try to play than when we do the tedious control stuff.
― LocalGarda, Tuesday, 3 March 2026 22:08 (two days ago)
I have always loved and respected Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club
― Sgt. Biscuits, Tuesday, 3 March 2026 22:08 (two days ago)
this is why liverpool play such tepid controlling football, cos when we go for it we are unbelievably loose at the back.
― LocalGarda, Tuesday, 3 March 2026 21:58 (ten minutes ago)
This is it
― Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 3 March 2026 22:09 (two days ago)
this season is so like this that i can't say i even feel more pessimistic about finishing top five.

― Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 3 March 2026 22:13 (two days ago)
Awful stuff, we'll be hard pushed to get top 5
― Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 3 March 2026 22:14 (two days ago)
i still think we prob will but only cos nobody else can put a run together either, besides post-amorim man united of course.

I have to say, reading entitled Liverpool fans online is making me hope they appoint Xabi and finish 10th
― imago, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 09:45 (yesterday)
Must be annoying other teams having fans.
― LocalGarda, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 09:49 (yesterday)
lol
― Schlub 7 (Tom D.), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 09:50 (yesterday)
Honestly if I read 'Slot only won the league with Klopp's team' one more time
― imago, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 09:52 (yesterday)
Anyway I'm not talking about on here obv
I do find people fairly impatient, not least given I spent my whole life for us to win the first title under Klopp. That said I can understand the frustration and think the likelihood of a meaningful revival under Slot is fairly slim. It's a tricky situation, I am not entirely sure what's best.
― LocalGarda, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 09:56 (yesterday)
waiting to us to*
― LocalGarda, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 09:57 (yesterday)
Xabi as the king across the water is helping absolutely nobody. If he was in work right now I feel the noises would be quieter, but as it stands I really pity Slot
― imago, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 10:00 (yesterday)
slot is still bulletproof until we get dumped out of the champions league, or maybe we'll win it, could happen I guess, like 2005.
― Francis Fuck Coprolalia (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 10:36 (yesterday)
i was vaguely hopeful of that but now i've seen our side of the draw i think it prob won't happen. tho with liverpool and the cl there can be madness, just the madness under slot tends to be at both ends.
― LocalGarda, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 10:54 (yesterday)
you have a rickety old man at centre back, ofc it does
― imago, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 10:55 (yesterday)
Wirtz hopefully returning soon and maybe even Isak by April will hopefully solve a few things, but I am now fully on the Xabi hypetrain.
― Piedie Gimbel, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 11:18 (yesterday)
The midfield is the problem not really the defence. Defence could be better but is exposed by a paper midfield. VVD not having a particularly bad season, xpost.
Xabi has earned a shot at it really, on merit. Whether Slot should be sacked is a different matter but come the end of the season it will be more clearcut.
― LocalGarda, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 13:53 (yesterday)
worst timeline is they get stevie g in, lol
― Francis Fuck Coprolalia (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 13:59 (yesterday)
McAllister seems to have fallen off a cliff this season alright
― Number None, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 14:13 (yesterday)
He's been awful. Idk is there something personal going on as there was hints of that towards the end of last season, then I guess a lot of injuries, but he has gone from looking arguably one of their best players to a plastic bag floating around the midfield.
― LocalGarda, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 14:27 (yesterday)
watching a youtuber who is claiming that some spurs players are deliberately playing badly because they'll be released from their contracts if the club are relegated
― Francis Fuck Coprolalia (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 19:40 (yesterday)
Van de Ven looks like hes thrown in the towel
― Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 20:15 (yesterday)
some of those lads must've got loooong release clauses
― podcast Diderot (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 20:49 (yesterday)
Ramsey getting a second yellow for newcastle for diving in the box, bit of a controversial one
― Reggaeton Sax (NickB), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 21:04 (yesterday)
thought he was getting a pen, got a red card instead
― Reggaeton Sax (NickB), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 21:05 (yesterday)
and then newcastle getting a pen a minute later for a foul by bruno
― Reggaeton Sax (NickB), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 21:06 (yesterday)
1-0 newcastle, ridiculous couple of minutes
― Reggaeton Sax (NickB), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 21:07 (yesterday)
Ramsey's second yellow was incredibly harsh. Didn't even seem to massively appeal for a penalty - and there was a suggestion of a touch from Lammens
That said, Joelinton should have gotten a second yellow for sarcastic applause earlier so swings and roundabouts
― Number None, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 21:09 (yesterday)
and now Casemiro scores
― Number None, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 21:10 (yesterday)
in the 9th minute of 3 minutes of injury time lol

newcastle always up for a crazy game every once in a while
― Reggaeton Sax (NickB), Wednesday, 4 March 2026 21:14 (yesterday)

― Number None, Wednesday, 4 March 2026 21:48 (yesterday)
