28/1 on Utd winning 3-2 last Sunday worked out nicely for me, altho i only had £1 on and have barely broken even this season so far as a result.

I don't think I've ever won a bet predicting a score. And the odds have become so shit on Arsenal/Chelsea to score above a certain amount that its just become a 'add celtic and rangers' to boost yr winnings.
― a hoy hoy, Friday, 24 September 2010 11:59 (fourteen years ago)
My usual betting strategy is bet £3-£5 on 5-7 teams with a view to winning £30-£50 and getting drunk.
My best ever bet was a 50p accumulator that won me something like £750 which was a lorra lorra money in 1993 (my weekly pay was about £120). I had 9 up on the Saturday and ended up waiting on Liverpool to win at Swindon on the Sunday. I was really nervous as Swindon had already drawn with Liverpool at Anfield. Macmanamanamanaman scored two early doors and Liverpool went on to win 5-0 and I went on to get really drunk.

I didn't win a single accumulator in the whole of last season. This was compounded by a trip to the dogs, where at one stage I went for a reverse double on two dogs in a five dog race, where everyone else I was with instantly decided on a triple with the other three and all won money and pointed at me and laughed.
― ailsa, Friday, 24 September 2010 12:57 (fourteen years ago)
I had a 10 match accumulator, 9 matches done right, awaiting on a Celtic win at home to net a grand.
They didn't.

solemnly promise to start backing myself and my long-held belief that spurs vs a team on an unholy run of shit form or a striker that hasn't scored in ten years or w/e are very good value to help a brother out, cf west ham's first win of the season at the weekend.

Weekend accumulators occasionally seem more stressful than they're worth.
Had:
Standard Liege to win against Kortrijk 2/5Fenerbahce to beat Sivasspor 8/13St Gallen to beat Luzern 5/4Basel to beat Young Boys 8/11
and just needed Zulte-Waregem to draw with Anderlecht for a 30/1 win.
After two red cards for Anderlecht and one for ZW, Waregem scored an injury time winner to make it 4-3.
However, i also had:
Legia Warszawa to beat Craicovia 8/11Terek Grozny and Anzhi to draw 5/2Zenit to beat Lokomotiv 8/11Spartak to beat Tomsk 2/9Slovan Bratislava to beat Vion Zlate Moravce 1/3
just needing Lech Poznan to beat Zawisza Bydgoszcz at 4/7 for a 27/1 win, which they were doing comfortably until some moron got himself sent off and Lech were pegged back to 3-2. They held on though.
Also had:
Ehime v Kataller Toyama - drawMontedio Yamagata to beat Mito HollyhockYokohama to beat Thespa Kusatsu
for a 13/1 bonus.

― Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Sunday, 1 December 2013 00:40 (eleven years ago)
Man U have replaced old favourites Arsenal in my "teams that always fuck up my coupon" list.
My new betting strategy from next weekend is to use the Ladrokes Result Rush coupon - it's a combination of traditional 1-2-X and Goal Rush - betting on a result and with both teams to score. A double usually comes in better than 10/1.
You just have to find shite teams who somehow always score or good teams who somehow always concede. Easy, eh?
― whilsting away the day (onimo), Monday, 2 December 2013 11:38 (eleven years ago)
Celtic are usually ok for that one :-(
I've been doing better recently with e/w trixies on first goal scorer. Usually pick Zlatan, Stevie May and one of Negredo or Suarez or Rooney or Lukaku depending on who they're playing (odds always way too short now on my original third choice of Sergio Aguero and Zlatan appears to be going the same way).
Of course I changed it up this week, and picked Lee McCulloch who proceeded to miss the penalty I knew Sevco would be awarded in a cup game. Decided to go big on Virgil van Dijk rather than any Celtic players who would actually score, and added Alexis Sanchez in the weekend Barcelona go to shite.

Took advantage of bet365's Champions League offer in style last night- place a bet pre-match and get a risk-free in-play bet. Put over 0.5 first half goals and decided to wait and see whether that won before deciding what to do in-play (thought I might have to recoup my loss). Goal duly scored so decided to go for a high odds one with my free bet - nothing ventured, nothing gained - so banged it on Sergio Ramos to score any time at 11/1. Nice wee balance going into the World Cup now :-)

Do I have this right?
Most seats at 2015 General Election
Labour best odds 4/5 (William Hill)Tories 11/8 (Sportingbet)
Assuming no ridiculous UKIP swing...to win £1000 I'd have to put either £555 on Labour or £421 on Tories. So if I do both I win £24. Which sounds shit for a £976 bet - but 2.4% tax free is better than any ISA earns in a year.
Do I lose if it's a tie?
― Guinness on your moustache (onimo), Thursday, 2 October 2014 15:56 (ten years ago)
You have your sums right, but as you surmise you'd effectively be putting £976 against the election being a tie at very short odds.
Besides, there are much easier ways to make risk-free profits from the bookies. You could make more than £24 every day for months if you have £976 you don't need straight away.

'Months' is bullshit, actually. Maybe up to two months if you did it every day. Matched betting - matching free bets you get at bookies with lay bets you put on at Betfair. There's at least a grand of free money available across the various bookies, though it can be a bit of a chore. I just do it when I'm going on holiday or something and need an extra couple of hundred.
