That Taiwo goal also. At half time, he was interviewed and asked if he'd done it on purpose or not. He said he'd looked up, seen the gk off his line and tried his luck. Then, the next day he was on a tv show with Souleymane Diawara (OM defender). he was asked the same question, he replied the same thing, but Diawara just laughed and called bullshit... and then Taiwo laughed too and admitted he was trying for a cross but the wind put the ball into the goal!

tbf litmanen was injured a lot of the time at liverpool but even when he was fit houllier just never seemed at all interested in changing the shape of his super pragmatic one-dimensional team to accommodate him iirc

it was also sort of a michael owen/steed malbranque thing too where if you get bought for a dickhead low price you end up getting treated accordingly. had litmanen been bought for the £12-15m he was worth instead of a freebie the story would have been a lot different.

That Diaz goal is fucking amazing, one of the best I've seen in ages.

Dan Byrne's might be more aesthetically pleasing as a spectacle but not sure he meant it. Intentionality being important in the rules I just made up for ranking these two events.

It's absolutely incredible, the speed, tenacity, and technical ability in the slide rapidly followed by the touch to beat the man alone. Then the finish is completely outrageous - there's a reason there are only a tiny few goals in living memory scored from that kind of angle. It can't be praised enough.
