Hold on a minute, Seaman was a tremendous keeper with a couple of epic blunders blotting his record. If you compare his importance to club and country and his achievements as a player to Le Tiss he's a few light years ahead.

Comparing Goalies to outfield players is a hapless exercise is the nub of my problem here. Obviously I wd vote for Le Tiss as more aesthetically appealing but on those grounds you will probably have a Hall of Fame featuring 0 keepers.

You don't have to judge him honestly, but from another POV it's like Brando throwing away the gun in On the Waterfront, it's kind of the defining point of letiss.

Should have been done baseball HOF style imho: as many nominees as possible, everyone gets 10/15/20 votes, top 5 percentile make the HOF, bottom 10 percentile get eliminated for the next year of voting.

Larsson was a great pick - was worried about getting mlt and four joke noms, which is why I had to seize on it. How unfair is *that* on Seaman?!

This Henrik challoping is kind of entertaining. Dude's won the EPL, Champions League, and almost single-handedly took a team featuring Rab Douglas to a European final. Pointing out that the SPL isn't very good is taking nothing away from his performances outside it for club(s) and country.

I love Matt Le Tissier, btw, and would vote for him against almost anyone else. I do love how Le Tiss is hailed as a hero for staying at a lower level his entire life, but Henke's gets crucified for the same thing (even though he didn't actually do that at all, and early 2000s Martin O'Neill Celtic are a totally different beast from the pish we're putting up with now).

To be fair he was mostly used as a wide player at Feyenoord which makes 1 in 4 look pretty good imo.

as for the henry quote, that was from the same interview where he was being insanely precious about barcelona players diving 'like women', then pledged his future to the club before signing for barca the next year, it was the shittiest praise of all because it was said mainly to spite players like eto'o who had outclassed him in the game

totally biased for le tissier cuz he was my favourite pl player when i was very little, but honestly his record stands up well

25/38 in 93/94 season playing from midfield for southampton.....pretty extraordinary, and he had seven seasons of 10+ league goals

admittedly that was in a substandard league, but you could compare it favourably to someone like diego in germany today

players from these isles with that level of technical quality are rare and deserve immense respect for thriving in a culture that's largely antithetical to them

Larsson was 34 when they won the champions league and had missed most of the previous season with a bad knee injury - it's maybe not surprising that he was mostly a sub by 2006.

Not really, putting Le Tiss in is perfectly ok, but the format of the HoF means the best player* to have played in my country in my 30+ years of watching football is now excluded, and that sucks.

*though I'll hear arguments for Brian Laudrup, Ally McCoist, Lubo Moravcik and pre-injury Michael Mols - none of whom would imo have beaten Le Tissier - which to me says Scottish football has no part to play here.

Overall I think this worked pretty well, no? Any suggested tweaks to the format for next month? Maybe make the poll a bit shorter. My feeling is that five candidates was probably about right, and three-month quarantine for losers will be long enough.
