i know we've been talking about this some, it's mostly been on the naming rights thread, yeah?

Russia I thought, but all the talk the last week has been bigging up Spain & Portugal's chances. England look like they've played this all wrong.

Belgium and the Netherlands least likely to be bankrupt by 2018?

yeah and you know what else? they have better food/wine and everyone is more attractive. plus the media machine surrounding a WC in the UK would be k-insufferable and blowhardy to the max. i hope it's never hosted there AGAIN

BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Monday, 29 November 2010 21:09 (fourteen years ago)

Panorama ran tonight with allegations on bribes taken by three FIFA voters prior to the 2006 world cup, plus some stuff or other about Jack Warner who is believed to control two, and possibly all three, of the concacaf votes (how, exactly?). Sorry to be so vague, I purposely didn't watch out of solidarity with our brave boys and their courageous bid.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 29 November 2010 23:41 (fourteen years ago)

They have better local wine. The rest is not entirely true.

plus the media machine surrounding a WC in the UK would be k-insufferable and blowhardy to the max.

Oh, but if England lost, it would be so very funny.

stance on relative attractiveness of spaniards/englishes compromised atm, let's call it a close-run thing

England is less racist than Spain/Por and Russia. England losing a second bid to another European country (after losing the 06 bid to Germany) would be too much a major fucking insult tbh - more than anything some factions of the media have done. Why give it to Spain/Por when Spain had a WC more recently than England and Portugal had a major tournament more recently than England? I feel like Russia should get a chance but try hosting a Euros first yeah? Adding everything up England not getting it would be some serious bullshit.

19 votes = the number of incorruptible/not-yet-implicated FIFA committee members

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:20 (fourteen years ago)

lol my vote was about as useless as the Belgian's delegate will be tomorrow.

Ludo, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 12:03 (fourteen years ago)

interesting how Spain/Portugal are suddenly the favourites, Spain surely have good post-colonial relationships...
