Venkys, Pardew, Tevez and the return of Liverpool, it has the potential to be a classic. Or not.

I'm not expecting much. The really big transfers never happen mid-season any more, and Blackburn and Newcastle are too poor to bring the laughs. (Who exactly is going to take the Blackburn job? Kitty of £5m and owners who'll tell you what to do with it) I guess Harry's profligacy could do it but Spurs are well-run enough to keep him on a leash. Which leaves just City, but I don't really feel like they're itching to get in amongst it this time.

Would be surprised if anything remotely funny comes from either Liverpool or Newcastle in January. Would like to see Venkys spunk their entire transfer budget on paying Beckham's wages to get him on loan for four months.

Inspector Anthony Slade, Monday, 20 December 2010 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

I think the best best potential for lols is City deciding to sell a few players with no real interest in getting a big fee, and leaving us with something like Adebayor at Newcastle.

^^^if this goes through it will be lol indeed

dan m, Monday, 20 December 2010 14:55 (fourteen years ago)

spurs will get rid of a few of the benchsitting wageslaves, prob on loan. nothing too exciting. would love to see crouch swapped for someone of quality

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 00:17 (fourteen years ago)

which striker(s) would you most like to see at spurs?

mizzell, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:24 (fourteen years ago)

Who is the best striker in Europe not already cup-tied for the Champions League? Aside from Tevez + Torres obv.

Would keep Crouch for the CL alone. Happy to lose Robbie Keane as soon as possible so I can forget about the last two years and just remember when he was great.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

forlan, dzeko, llorente, cavani, nilmar (?), demba cisse (on form)

i hope spurs aren't put off by buying a cup-tied striker, league is way more important this year.

mizzell, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

its tough to name a name, really. I just hate how we play when crouch is up there. If he could head the ball it'd be different.

A striker with am aerial presence that plays looking forward, not coming back like crouch tends to. Even defoe comes deep more often than not these days, i'd like a real 'last man' striker to stretch defences a bit more. If he can get in the box so that the entirety of bale's crosses are no longer unattended, that'd be great too.

I'm well behind on my european footy tbh, so i've got no names as i said.

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

anybody ever seen this welliton dude play for spartak? scored 19 goals this season and 21 last season, only 24 years old. never been called up by brazil.

mizzell, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

llorente or dzeko, yes, from what i've seen. Now that van basten II has started playin at schalke he's prob stayin there.

Forlan too old?

Carroll would be worth a shot, rodallega good cheap option that covers loss of keane as well as giving us something up front.

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

i think not buying huntelaar was a mistake. it seems like he was available, but arry thought he was not an improvement over what he already had. pretty rong, imo.

mizzell, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:48 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, but then he'd had a bad year at ac and might have been considered a gamble?

Worthwhile one, imo, tho.

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

Who is the best striker in Europe not already cup-tied for the Champions League?

said it before, will say it again: HULK.

srs.

irish xmas caek, get that marzipan inta ya (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

eh. Would feel like that was a risk tbh. Wasnt he a clumsy lw only two years ago?

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

Dzeko's agents probably openly tarting him to Man City as we speak, even with the change in the Tevez situation. Would take Carroll but not sure Newcastle will sell him unless for silly money. Forlan could be a hit or a miss but I would love it if we signed him. Would he go though?

(xpost forgot about HULK)

Matt DC, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

No. He was a Brazilian getting used to European football two years ago in a shit heap team. Now he is the spitting image of a young Drogba. I seriously think whoever is smart enough to get in there first will be fucking fearsome.

irish xmas caek, get that marzipan inta ya (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

well ok add him up to the carroll list of 'worth a shot if we sell crouch'

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

i would buy falcao and hulk. i thought they were cup-tied.

mizzell, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

also it's a myth that huntelaar wasn't performing. at both milan and madrd he barely got playing time, almost always as a sub and still scored goals.

mizzell, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

You won't get Hulk, he's being lined up for the proper big money move to the proper big time aiui - expect to see him at Inter or Chelsea next year.

Move that won't happen but by rights should - Bellamy

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

bellamy in keane out, not enough of a change there for me. Huuuuge wages. Different when we needed cover at lw, maybe.

LOL

Guardian club-by-club

hasn't changed my mind about nothing much happening, but now wondering if Glen Johnson to Spurs is a done deal? There've been plenty of stories assuming he's on his way out at Liverpool, and he's only linked with Tottenham here. It half makes sense - he'd be an up grade on Hutton at least

Ismael Klata, Friday, 24 December 2010 10:01 (fourteen years ago)

interesting hearing on the graun podcast about bayern munich negotiating with leighton baines and him of course not really feeling the scary playing abroad vibe

probably one for the "how kinda lol mostly sad will the january 2011 transfer market get" thread tbf, or aka why england are and always will be shit

irish xmas caek, get that marzipan inta ya (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 17:30 (fourteen years ago)

Scotty Parker's about as good as he's always been, don't get why everyone should be falling over each other to have a race for him now

just enjoying a retrospective chuckle at Allardyce's quote about being raring to get back into management 'with a club that matches my ambition', now it's become clear that that club is Blackburn Rovers

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 4 January 2011 18:45 (fourteen years ago)

Someone keep Harry on a leash please, it's starting to worry me. That said, a top-quality, reliable striker is what you need if you're really not going to shore up the back any. (did Pienaar sign yesterday? I can't remember)

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 20 January 2011 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

would take m torres.

Hulk that'd be good two dropped points vs utd woud be worth it if it finally convinced arry that crouch is muck.

onimo, Thursday, 20 January 2011 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

totally. You got a fee you agreed too, shut your mouth or back yourself and turn it down imo.

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Thursday, 20 January 2011 20:08 (fourteen years ago)
