yeah i mean ppl generally seem to have a soft spot for them what with them being a "proper club" as it were. but they've never not had an essential grubby birminghamness about them and really it's worse for having it also being confected into this vile british bulldog "academy of football" delusion of geezer noblesse
"forever blowing bubbles" is hard not to love despite everything though tbf

'pool would've walked it 'til the Holloway backlash (i.e. 2 or 3 mildly critical posts) kicked in recently. Ditto Everton with Cahill. Newcastle would get the sympathy vote this week, but I reckon West Ham would take it in a backlash-against-the-backlash shocker. LJ dangerously exposed on this thread I feel

west ham is a thoroughly unpleasant institution with a massive superiority complex and with a mourinho-esque fate-cheating habit of avoiding the drop despite manifestly deserving it season after season. they employ a disproportionately high number of cunts on their playing staff (yeah I know, we signed Di Canio as well and Bowyer started here, but they're not the worst) and in recent years their football has stagnated into utter drudgery. and they pretty much cheated to stay up. and we beat them 4-0 that season and they still stayed up. fuck them.

Come on you irons. Birmingham, WBA and Blackburn for the drop please (though I've just found out that Steve Kean is in a sense a protégé of my friend's dad - he coached his youth team or something along those lines and had some kind of mentor/mentee thing for a few years afterwards)
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 3 February 2011 23:27 (fourteen years ago)
they fired harry rednapp iirc. that's kinda lol, do they look at him now and go, ah fuck?
― zvookster, Thursday, 3 February 2011 23:38 (fourteen years ago)
The thing that's a bit sad about West Ham and Villa this season is they both seem to be giving their youth products a go this season... and they're both having dreadful seasons. I still think they're in schtuck, though - they'll keep getting these occasional good results, but I don't see them putting together a consistent run. Then again, this season, maybe they won't need to.
― William Bloody Swygart, Thursday, 3 February 2011 23:45 (fourteen years ago)
I still think they'll go down, 1x good goalscoring run from Robbie Keane could save them but the problem that won't go away is that defence. I just can't see any teams, except maybe Birmingham, that look shit enough to go down in their place. Although West Brom have really sunk like a stone without me noticing.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 3 February 2011 23:57 (fourteen years ago)

redknapp's beyond useless spending of the £18m ferdinand money is one of the all-time greatest prem fuck-ups and from an extremely promising position basically set the ball rolling for the next decade of nonsense lasting to this day. no one really seems to remember him for it though, arry being arry.

In came Christian Dailly (£1.75m), Rigobert Song (£2.5m), Hayden Foxe (free) and Ragnvald Soma (£800,000). Redknapp also paid Liverpool £2.2m for Titi Camara and Litex Lovech, £500,000 for Svetoslav Todorov. Kaba Diawara, Hannu Tihinen and Sebastien Schemmel were also signed on loan, although only the latter ended up with a permanent deal.

I feel sorry for the new yuts, who seem to have an ounce of talent and don't seem like dicks (Hines and Tomkins and Stanislas) who deserve better.
Also I really want them to stay up so they are still seen as a viable candidate for the Olympic stadium, Spurs deserve better and WHU getting it has an endless potential for lols.
But really, FUCK WEST HAM UNITED

We won't be doing that here. The chairman is ambitious and so are the owners. We're not going to sell Gareth Bale."

Two elderly widows were out on their evening walk when they happened upon a fat Tory slumped by a garden wall.
Ray, 52, was clutching his bull terrier and incoherently singing ♫ IIIIIIIIIIIm forever blowing bubblessssssssss ♫
"Are you a fan of that nice West Ham United?", enquired the widows. Ray, 52, briefly righted himself and set down his tonic wine.
"No you don't understand, Bubbles is the name of my dog."

The West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan has claimed that a drunken supporter racially abused a player, sparking the brawl that marred the club's end-of-season dinner on Monday night. The event was spoiled by a disturbance between supporters and players which caused the police to be called to the Grosvenor Hotel in central London.
Sullivan told Sky Sports News: "The whole incident has been blown out of all proportion. It was one individual that had too much to drink, sadly a problem in British society. A player was racially abused by the same drunken supporter which is totally unacceptable. Sadly one drunken supporter has let the club down."
It is thought the player in question may be Demba Ba, who according to witnesses, was also at the centre of the row after he allegedly refused to sign an autograph. Trouble apparently flared once the club's co-owner David Gold had delivered a speech in which he had pledged the team's stay in the Championship would be brief after relegation was confirmed at Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
Witnesses claimed supporters then reacted badly after Ba supposedly turned down the autograph request, with other players, including Manuel da Costa, confronted in the ensuing melee.
Plates and glasses were apparently broken in the brief fracas that followed, with a group of supporters running from the function suite out of the hotel, pursued by security staff.

Uncompromising though he was on the pitch, straight-talking Julian Dicks needed no convincing where West Ham United's proposed new crest was concerned.
An advocate of simplicity, Dicks was instantly taken by the new design and pleased to see the famous crossed hammers given the prominence they deserve.
A legend in his own right, the newly-appointed West Ham United Ladies manager was also proud of the recognition of the Club's Thames Ironworks beginnings.
"I like it," he told whufc.com. "It's quite plain but you've still got the crossed hammers and you've got the inscription of the Thames Ironworks. I think it's a nice badge. It's clean and simple, just like me!"
