WHY CAN'T I DO THESE? I am adequate at football, not great or anything but I don't embarrass myself in workplace games particularly but seriously my record is, like, eight.
How are you at these?

Keepie-uppies? I did over a hundred once, but only once. 108 I believe.
I can do about twenty no problem - but my feeling is that if you can get to twenty, there shouldn't be any reason why you can't keep going indefinitely, but it doesn't at all work like that.

My favourite move is the backheel the other side of the standing leg, like John Barnes does in the 'World In Motion' video like it ain't no thing.

when i played, this was always referred to as juggling. do you not say that in the uk?
― mizzell, Monday, 7 March 2011 21:43 (fourteen years ago)
Keepie-uppies is pretty much it as terminology goes over here.
― ailsa, Monday, 7 March 2011 22:32 (fourteen years ago)
10 year-old kids that go on Record Breakers and do a couple of million of these never turn into proper professional footballers tho.
That is what I tell myself.
― Pauls to the Wall (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 March 2011 22:36 (fourteen years ago)
I think the pros can do it way better than any of those dedicated keepie-uppie types, it's just: why would they bother?
I remember Maradona juggling before the Cameroon game in 1990, using just his left shoulder and flicking it about thirty feet high. That's how confident they were.
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 7 March 2011 22:41 (fourteen years ago)
It's like the kids that do Skill School on Soccer AM, all that "unbelievable tekkers" shite. That's not football, it's just fucking rhythmic gymastics, innit?
― ailsa, Monday, 7 March 2011 22:45 (fourteen years ago)
Am willing to bet that many, many centre backs can't do keepie-ups better than those dedicated types. Or Dennis Wise.

My record was 348 as a kid. Hurts the neck and back.

Used to be able to do hundreds. When I was about 15 went to watch our village side, got bored and ended up doing keepie uppies on the sideline until the manager told me to stop showing off and turn up next week for a game. I did. I was crap.

kick upmanship

Cannot do keepie-uppies for the life of me, despite 00,000s of hours of childhood football. But this, along with the spring sunshine, reminds me: we should revive the London Fancy A Kickabout tradition sometime soon.
― Stevie T, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 11:56 (fourteen years ago)
Lol,kick-ups.

my record is 169
― el tuomboto (cozen), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 12:50 (fourteen years ago)
I could do hundreds when I was about 14. These days it tends to be between 10 and 30. I've no idea why I shouldn't be able to do hundreds any more as it's not really a stamina thing.
These show off fucks on Soccer AM piss me off. What was so wrong with left-right-left-right-couple of knees-maybe a header?
― on... imo (onimo), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 13:28 (fourteen years ago)
It's nice when sometimes you catch it so it somehow runs right up your body - knee, thigh, chest, shoulder, head - without any effort, like some kind of millipede's legs effect. Totally random though, for me at least. I used to be able to catch it on the back of my neck, but whenever I tried to flick it back up again it'd come off my head at any angle, no control of that part whatsoever.
― Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 13:51 (fourteen years ago)
shit, the weight i've gained since i was 18, i've no excuse for missing my neck
― Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 13:55 (fourteen years ago)
I can do about three. I was always a pretty bad footballer but my inability at keepy upping goes beyond all reason.
