Big Sam, no question. Though I reckon Sven would be quite creepy prowling the taxi rank.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 24 June 2011 22:57 (thirteen years ago)

I've went and voted Dyche by mistake, fat fingers. I don't even know who he is.

Captained Chesterfield during their run to the FA Cup semis in 97.

The last two England managers are now both in the second tier. October 2012: Fabio is delighted to bring Carlton Cole to Derby County.

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 24 June 2011 23:00 (thirteen years ago)

Though the correct is, of course, Nigel Pearson:

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 24 June 2011 23:03 (thirteen years ago)

Aw yeah, I remember him - smashed home a terrible, terrible penalty in the semi then celebrated madly in vein-popping style. It was the right vote after all.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 24 June 2011 23:04 (thirteen years ago)

Sorry, de Jong is the only Nigel who may feature in a terror poll.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 24 June 2011 23:05 (thirteen years ago)

Hold on, every England manager since Robson has descended to the second tier, is that right?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 24 June 2011 23:07 (thirteen years ago)

Dear God I'd forgotten El Tel's horrendous return to Palace.

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 24 June 2011 23:12 (thirteen years ago)

nah, andy thorn will do you fair and square imo. nigel clough's totally the one with the stanley. and he will use it meticulously.

I'm quite proud to say I remembered Keith Millen's name without any prompting. Doesn't happen often, that.

He doesn't really figure here though.

bet he'd still give mclaren a kicking tbf

r|t|c, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:02 (thirteen years ago)

Suspect Nigel Clough might have secret anger management issues.

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:02 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, it's the way he keeps a lid on it that makes him more unnerving though.

have you not heard about clough's whole line in publicly humiliating his players in interviews? cywka and moxey, and then pretty much the whole team (going through each one by name) after the forest defeat

r|t|c, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:11 (thirteen years ago)

I hadn't come across it before, but this is absolutely amazing:

"We'd like some players who - in the 89th minute - don't lose the ball 20 yards outside the box which leads to us conceding a goal, which Tomasz Cywka did," Clough said.

"He's an extremely inexperienced and not very bright footballer. He should have chested the ball and hooked it into the corner flag with five minutes to go.

"That's what experienced, good players do in that situation. And despite being told - and he has been with us 10 months - he is still doing things like that. He can go back to Wigan or wherever he came from - I'm not really bothered - until he learns the game.

"It is getting very, very frustrating when you are dealing with people who are doing things like that.

"It's not a physical thing [with Cywka] - it's a mental one but if players don't learn then you move onto the next one."

the championship truly is another world, the chthonic hell where english people slowly kill each other in stadiums sponsored by logistic comparnies while a few sorry nultic apprentices bite their fingernails to the bone and scribble a few clipped lines about the savage rites

tipper gore (nakhchivan), Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:24 (thirteen years ago)

ya i miss it already

tbf to the championship nigel person did sell wayne brown from leicester to preston for voting bnp that time

r|t|c, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:32 (thirteen years ago)

haha "nigel person"

the archetypal championship spectator

r|t|c, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:32 (thirteen years ago)

By way of comparison, League One features the following:

Lee Bradbury (Bournemouth)
Uwe Rosler (Brentford)
Richie Barker (Bury)
Greg Abbott (Carlisle)
Chris Powell (Charlton)
John Sheridan (Chesterfield)
John Ward (Colchester)
Paul Tisdale (Exeter)
Mick Wadsworth (Hartlepool)
Lee Clark (Huddersfield)
Russell Slade (Leyton Orient)
Some cunt (Some cunts)
Martin Allen (Notts County)
Paul Dickov (Oldham Athletic)
Phil Brown (Preston North End)
Steve Eyre (Rochdale)
Alan Knill (Scunthorpe)
Danny Wilson (Sheffield United)
Gary Megson (Sheffield Wednesday)
Graham Westley (Stevenage)
Les Parry (Tranmere)
Dean Smith (Walsall)
Gary Waddock (Wycombe)
Terry Skiverton (Yeovil)

On balance, would say Champ managers are harder. Albeit Clark, Rosler, Allen, Dickov and Knill are all a bit terrifying in their own special ways.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:33 (thirteen years ago)

ive heard of eight of those

tipper gore (nakhchivan), Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:36 (thirteen years ago)

This said, we all know what happens when John Sheridan gets the wind up.

xp - I know literally nothing about Steve Eyre.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:38 (thirteen years ago)

greg abbott wins that, if i'm not mistaken.

r|t|c, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:42 (thirteen years ago)

see i'll always put in a good word for the champo but god, just looking at that league one list.... impossibly grim

r|t|c, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:46 (thirteen years ago)

Paul Tisdale seems like a well-behaved young man.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:48 (thirteen years ago)

dunno, suspect he's robbed a few branches of river island in his time

r|t|c, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:50 (thirteen years ago)

Weirdly, the League Two gaffers might be better known on the whole:

Terry Brown (AFC Wimbledon)
John Coleman (Accrington Stanley)
Dean Holdsworth (Aldershot)
Lawrie Sanchez (Barnet)
Peter Jackson (Bradford)
Paul Buckle (Bristol Rovers)
Paul Peschisolido (Burton Albion)
Mark Yates (Cheltenham Town)
Convicted Tax Cheat Steve Evans (Crawley Town)
Crewe Boss Dario Gradi (Crewe Alexandra)
John Still (Dagenham & Redbridge)
ANDY HESSENTHALER (GILLINGHAM)
Jamie Pitman (Hereford)
Gary Simpson (Macclesfield)
Jim Bentley (Morecambe)
Gary Johnson (Northampton)
Chris Wilder (Oxford)
Peter Reid (Plymouth)
Micky Adams (Port Vale)
Andy Scott (Rotherham)
Graham Turner (Shrewsbury)
Paul Sturrock (Southend)
Paolo di Canio (Swindon)
Martin Ling (Torquay)

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:56 (thirteen years ago)

Hessenthaler might actually be the scariest of the lot, thinking about it.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:57 (thirteen years ago)

Albeit that di Canio is actually, y'know, a fascist.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 25 June 2011 00:57 (thirteen years ago)

Discussing the Chelsea manager, Allardyce wrote in his column for the London Evening Standard: "I wish him well in the best league in the world but I have to say that there's a young manager in England who I believe can be every bit as good as Andre - his name is Karl Robinson and he's in charge of MK Dons."

"Will Karl get his chance, though? Probably not."
