The most badly run club in the Premier League 2011-12

Can anyone top QPR?
- Main shareholder Bernie Ecclestone accused of bribery in Germany
- Promotion transfer kitty of £1.25m
- Meaning Kieron Dyer gets another chance to play 30 minutes of football in a season because he's on a free
- Admission prices, in effect, doubling
- Meaning 9,000 season tickets have still, astonishingly, not sold out
- Still lumbered with League One players who were inexplicably given £25k a week contracts and who no one else wants
- Looking to sell the player who won the club promotion
- Still no kit or sponsor for next season (playing friendlies in old kits with old sponsor gaffer taped over)
- Chairman walking out in close season, ostensibly because he's upset about ticket prices (but probably because he's Mittal's placeman and Bernie wouldn't sell to Mittal)

Really? Worse than QPR?

Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 10:18 (thirteen years ago)

i'm really offering them as the only alternative, tbh.

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 10:19 (thirteen years ago)

at least Bernie's being financially responsible eh?

Wavey Grave-Shit (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 10:40 (thirteen years ago)

just saying

Wavey Grave-Shit (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 10:40 (thirteen years ago)

The most sympathetic spin you can put on it is that QPR won't be lumbered with expensive players when they get relegated.

Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 10:54 (thirteen years ago)

and is Bernard shovelling huge chunks of cash out of the club and into his Swiss bank account like the Glazers, eh?

Wavey Grave-Shit (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 10:55 (thirteen years ago)

There's no cash coming in to shovel out.

Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 11:04 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah Utd have to be considered just for the sheer amount of debt the Glazers have put them in. Also any team managed by Steve Bruce. Villa's McLeish choice coiled with selling their most loved players must also be considered.

But yeah QPR are #1

I am Louise Boat (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 11:32 (thirteen years ago)

villa just confirmed that they'll not be signing more than one player this season

So they're in with a bullet

Arsenal for same reason, but obv the stock is in good shape

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 11:40 (thirteen years ago)

We have said many times we are buying more playaz doe.

I am Louise Boat (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 12:41 (thirteen years ago)

that's fine so

Villa in the shit tho. Might give them the other kyle. Still holding out hope for a 'sensible for all involved' deal for jenas, bentley, crouch et al to materialise here tho.

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 13:11 (thirteen years ago)

Oh QPR. Disappointing lack of other contenders. Atm. I wonder if we're finally seeing some natural selection against insane mismanagement?

Also Arsenal - does anyone actually think they're badly run, to the extent they should change stuff. Other than the bewildering non-signings, I'm saying no.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

obv not but their audley harrison act is fucking irritating

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

Arsenal' "custodianship" model is one of the great pieces of self-promotion, given the "custodians" all took out multi-millions without ever having to put anything in. But it's clearly a well-run club.

Forgot one thing from the QPR summer fiascos list:
- Undermining the manager who's just won promotion when the very problem with the club in recent years has been managerial instability.

Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 14:08 (thirteen years ago)

all this and no mention of gianni paladini. impressive.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 14:18 (thirteen years ago)

thing is, if we'd forsaken the fucking pittance that loftus road will bring in and kept season ticket prices reasonable, and given warnock the average amount of money a promoted club can afford (even blackpool could budget £5m or so) i wouldn't even be moaning.

ecclestone? whatever, will never not be a fit & proper person in the fa's eyes

taarabt? what are we supposed to do if he's made up his mind? not to mention a stonking great £15m plus for a bloke unproven at top level and liable to be a disaster as much as a saviour

dyer? pay as u play, whatever

kit & sponsors? lotto havent brought out any kits for anyone yet, and
reeling in sponsorship wedge is pretty much the only thing i trust briatore with

mittals? they play a good game of pr but it remains to be seen what they're really made of

r|t|c, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

I agree on the Mittals - they have their own place in the litany of bad running of the club.
With Taarabt, the real question is how serious anyone else is about wanting him. I see Dave McIntyre's taken his piece about that off his own blog, but it's still here: http://qprreport.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=23675

Paladini hasn't yet fucked anything up this close season, but give him time.

not only that, but a near enough full-strength team scraping past plymouth 1-0 in the 90th minute. still, that's the way you win leagues...

thing that's really worrying me now though (and i can't watch the post-match interview video now, but just from how it reads on paper) is warnock's maybe starting to get a little flippant, a little less guarded with his remarks... i mean, if he cracks, or is anything less than beatifically optimistic & determined at the centre of things this season, then we really are royally fucked. he's pretty much all there is left.

My son this morning told me QPR beat Tavistock 8-0 in a friendly last summer. I told him it was 13-0 this time. He reckoned that proves QPR are five goals better this time. I rolled my eyes. Then harangued him for an hour about HOW THIS IS THE WORST-RUN CLUB IN THE COUNTRY AND WE'RE GOING STRAIGHT DOWN AND YOU MAY BE SEVEN BUT THAT GIVES YOU NO RIGHT TO ENGAGE IN THIS STUPID OPTIMISM DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND WE'RE SHIT BOY?

Yeah. Thing is, I think this needs a real reporter rather than someone who's gathering their information from the half-truths and whispers on messageboards. Would love to see David Conn do a piece about QPR, but the chaos isn't purely financial, is it? It's cultural. Might propose a blog for the start of the season about how the misery of being a fan this summer, but I'm not the writer for a serious piece about this. Do I know you from professional life in any way?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 21 July 2011 15:27 (thirteen years ago)

nah no professional life dealings, i just surmised from qpr and your other specialist ilx subjects. (haha sorry if creepy-seeming...)

agree that a serious bit of investigative journalism would be great but i'm not sure who's around that could take on such an epic ballache tbh. (like you say conn hasn't quite got the human element down and i suspect everyone else will find it too hard to resist the temptation to go down the "kooky qpr" lolz route. and then someone "on the inside" like dave mcintyre has too many axes to grind. graun's matt scott maybe...?)

but i dunno, in lieu of all that a cry of powerless fan anguish is probably better than nothing; feeding off half-truth messageboard scraps is only symptomatic of consistently being told blatant untruths by the club, after all.

The Club is auctioning two 2010/11 npower Championship winners' medals in a bid to raise money for both the QPR in the Community Trust and Centre of Excellence.

The auction has started on both medals, so if you're interested in getting your hands on a rare collector's item, or just want to make a contribution to one of these worthwhile causes, then get bidding now!

lolol great timing

r|t|c, Friday, 22 July 2011 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

Presumably Adel didn't give a shit about his because it's not a medal for a level he recognises as being high enough for his talent, so he gave it to the club to sell.

Ticket prices for the Bolton and Newcastle games announced today. Lots of moaning on the boards about having to play £20 a game more for the same seat.

Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Friday, 22 July 2011 20:31 (thirteen years ago)

Club Statement on behalf of majority shareholders Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore:

'We are pleased to confirm that Adel Taarabt will be staying at QPR this summer.

Despite receiving a substantial bid for our Moroccan international, we rebuffed all approaches and indeed, we are keen to build for the future in the Barclays Premier League, and not sell one of our prized assets.

Should we have decided to sell Taarabt this summer, we made it clear to Neil Warnock that we would reinvest funds into the squad.

Taarabt is fully committed to the Club and is looking forward to proving his undoubted star quality for QPR in the Barclays Premier League.

Our decision not to sell him only serves to reiterate the ambition and commitment we have both shown to QPR since we arrived here.

We saved the Club when it was close to relegation from the Championship and just one week from liquidation.

At this time, Flavio Briatore outlined a four year plan to reach the Premier League, which was achieved.

We have always owned approximately 70 per-cent of the shareholding at the Club and have been the major benefactors since our arrival.

We have backed Neil Warnock in bringing in his two top targets, Jay Bothroyd and Kieron Dyer, and we are working hard to try and pursue a couple of other targets the coach has identified.

Welsh international Danny Gabbidon has impressed the coach whilst on trial and we are aiming to add him, as well as at least one or two other players to our squad in the near future.

Neil Warnock is our coach and we are working closely with him in a professional and confidential manner to try to achieve our aims and objectives.

The coach's job is to coach the squad and identify players he believes will improve the squad. As a Board, we deal with all the negotiations and we have been successful in completing deals for Bothroyd and Dyer so far.

We are aware of some issues that have been raised in the press by the coach, but we have discussed these with him internally and he has agreed to be more reserved in terms of what he discusses in the future.

We are fully committed to strengthening our status as a Premier League Club next season and in due course, build for the future.

Now we are in the Premier League, we intend to stay here. We believe this Club can achieve great things and we are looking forward to the Barclays Premier League season.

We are very encouraged by the 10,000 plus Season Tickets we have sold to date and we look forward to welcoming our fans back to Loftus Road on the first day of the season against Bolton Wanderers on August 13th.'

r|t|c, Saturday, 23 July 2011 12:21 (thirteen years ago)

Briatore insisted: "Within four years we will challenge Milan in Europe. Our programme is to reach the Premier League within three years.

"I want to be in Europe within four years. It would be great to challenge Milan. Briatore against [Adrian] Galliani [Milan president]."

r|t|c, Saturday, 23 July 2011 12:36 (thirteen years ago)

gist of this statement basically being "don't think we won't pull the trigger if we hear any more moaning out of you £20 cunts"

r|t|c, Saturday, 23 July 2011 12:39 (thirteen years ago)

Gist of this statement being: "Despite what his owners wanted, that twat Leonardo has let PSG and QPR down by not fancying spunking €15m on someone who's never shown it at the top level. So we have to keep him. Still the fans love him, so it'll get them off our backs for a week or two."

Have to say I'm delighted though.

Oyston - yeah it was never a gun he held to people's heads, was it.

The R's new home kit for the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League campaign will be revealed exclusively in your 'Hoops' matchday programme this Saturday.

The new-look 84-page publication, complete with a perfect-bound matt laminate finish, will include exclusive images of the new kit, as modeled by a handful of the QPR First Team squad.

Neil Warnock's men will be wearing the new home kit against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, as Premier League football returns to Loftus Road for the first time in 15 years.

*We are aware some Cads of the new kits have been leaked on the internet, but would encourage our supporters to buy the matchday programme - priced at just £3 - to see the Official images.

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 13 August 2011 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

Actually, QPR weren't awful, so much as the deficiencies of Tango and Cash's no-money recruitment policy were exposed. Inferior to QPR in every position, but it wasn' the players' fault. They were just not as good as their counterparts and never will be. Unless money is spent before the end of the month it will be a horrible, horrible season.

Also: today's piece of QPR classiness. The big unveiling of the new kit in the programme consisted of photoshopping it on to old action shots of the players. They hadn't even paid for a proper shoot. Stay classy, Rangers.
