"[Player X] is a clever, he drops deep into that pocket between midfield and defence, which makes him very hard to pick up"

Lophar Andreusz DeLeone (admrl), Sunday, 21 August 2011 17:22 (thirteen years ago)

oops midfield and ATTACK

Lophar Andreusz DeLeone (admrl), Sunday, 21 August 2011 17:22 (thirteen years ago)

Like, yeah, some players do this but I think maybe opposing defensive players might have figured this out by now too

Lophar Andreusz DeLeone (admrl), Sunday, 21 August 2011 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

but they get dragged out of position attempting to mark players that do it

Point taken - it is a skill, but it's more the fact that the above is repeated so often and in a way that indicates that it is some entirely new concept

"davidsilva"

I watch all my football in foreign these days; the only cliche I'm aware of is 'goooooooool' and I don't want that to be retired.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 21 August 2011 17:40 (thirteen years ago)

lol @ foreign

Lophar Andreusz DeLeone (admrl), Sunday, 21 August 2011 17:42 (thirteen years ago)

Actually, 'rabona' or any other term that lends credibility to pointless fannydangle, they can all go.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 21 August 2011 17:42 (thirteen years ago)

I noticed watching the world cup on Univision here that Spanish-speaking announcers have a particular way of saying "Simao....Sssssssssssssabrossssaaa". Could anyone elucidate?

the list on the Wiki "rabona" page that begins Well known players who have used the skill effectively in competition include was too tempting not to edit

Are you responsible for Cattermole as well or just the Wolves entry?

Inbetweener! Coined by Martin Tyler during the Bolton-Man City match this afternoon.

Chris, Sunday, 21 August 2011 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

is martin tyler a real person? i thought it was a cliché describing the typical nasal whining bloviating shithead who gets asked to talk about football on tv

nakhchivan, Sunday, 21 August 2011 18:34 (thirteen years ago)

Dempsey is (in)famous for trying rabonas, esp for the US national team. Don't think he's that great at them though.

boxall, Sunday, 21 August 2011 20:37 (thirteen years ago)

c'mon: Wise, Cattermole and Big George

Don't think these are cliches but wish these phrases would die

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

'maintained their 100% record' to describe a team winning their first two games of the season

nakhchivan, Monday, 22 August 2011 17:20 (thirteen years ago)

I fucking love "Inbetweener".
