neither look realistically able to build a new stadium even though they both desperately look at such a venture as being *needed* for their future. so should they go in together or keep trying to do it alone?

They don't actually hate each other unlike, uh, some teams from the same cities

'former big club' stadium

Is it still true that they don't hate each other? I heard that there was increasing bad blood the past few years. Also, are derby games still unsegregated?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 1 September 2011 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

As for the stadium, I think Liverpool should redevelop Anfield. Turning it sideways was potentially a terrific idea, they already own most of the buildings around it, and what they don't own can't be worth much, let's face it.

So up to Everton, really. If they wanted to move in that'd be fine and would make sense financially I guess, there can't be great demand for multiple stadia in Liverpool, unlike London. That said, I can't imagine they'd want to, and tbh I don't understand what's so wrong with Goodison - it looks great, at least on the telly (I've never been).

so I went for option #2

this is one of those areas where ex nihilo rationalism doesnt work

like yeah american gun laws might not be ideal but they are formed by a particular context that cannot be willed away

liverpool is not milan, ppl arent going to forget their affinities just cuz it makes financial sense

Seriously though, no idea.

Yeah, apparently not the 'friendly derby' it used to be, but, I don't know to be honest. I've never been to a Derby, so I've no idea what the atmosphere's like on a match day and how/if it differs to the usual banter you get. I have mates who are Evertonians and I get on fine with them! Derbies are segregated by the way.

So Liverpool are going ahead with Stanley Park, on the nine-year-old plans again. I rather liked the Hicks & Gillette plans, this seems a shame.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 18:58 (thirteen years ago)

Not sure if this is definite yet is it?

Chris, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 16:08 (thirteen years ago)

Will it ever be definite? It was reported yesterday as if it was a final decision (for now), and that they're now going out to seek funding. They've given up on redeveloping Anfield, too many insurmountables. Advantages are that this is £100m cheaper than the H&G design, and that H&G already broke ground so the old planning permission still applies. The interior can be upgraded to modern standards apparently, though we're stuck with the exterior as per the old planning permission.

Of course, this means the grounds will be even closer together.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

The impression I had was that naming rights aren't anywhere near to being finalised, which means any decision on the stadium will still be some way away right? Just a bit surprised because I wasn't expecting any news for a while, but if things are moving along then fair enough.

Chris, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 16:31 (thirteen years ago)

Telegraph piece. It's being reported as the final decision, but it's also as you say. 'Final decision' as regards seeking funding, but nothing's final 'til it's actually built, maybe.

So Liverpool are going ahead with Stanley Park redeveloping Anfield, on the nine-year-old thirteen-year-old plans again. I rather liked the Hicks & Gillette plans, but this seems a shame like the right move tbh.

some David Conn handwringing here

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 31 May 2012 21:56 (twelve years ago)

No Fellaini in the Everton ad, you'd think they'd feature their best player if he's going to be hanging around to wear the thing.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 4 June 2012 14:18 (twelve years ago)

yeah but

one year passes...

David Conn gets his poster boys - the four private landlords who own eight houses round Anfield and are refusing to consider a sale, instead holding out for half-a-million. Using the arguments Conn's been pushing of late.

The Guardian are leading with Pep's press conference today.
