New & improved key features for Football Manager 2012:
Manage Anywhere, Anytime – the ability to add or take away playable nations in your saved game as often as you want. Manage in that country at the start of the next season - meaning you don’t have to decide on which nations are playable at the start of your career.
Transfers & Contracts – significant changes to the transfer and contract systems, including loyalty bonuses, better implementation of amateur and youth contracts, an improved transfer centre and the ability to lock areas of the contract negotiation when you aren't prepared to budge. This helps you to manage your budgets and gives you flexibility in what you offer money hungry players, or agents, as incentives.
Scouting improvements – using several real life scouting reports, a new in-game report was devised which includes squad analysis, tactics information and information about goals scored and conceded alongside lots of other scouting improvements, giving you all the information you need to prepare before kick-off and throughout the season.
3D Match Improvements – new animations, a whole new crowd system, improved weather system, more stadiums, plus two brand new cameras - "Behind Goal" and "Director Cam" as well as all other camera angles being reversible - meaning you can watch and analyse every aspect of every game.
Intelligent Interface – a new adaptive layout system, which means the higher your screen resolution, the more info is easily at your fingertips. The new interface also contains new filters, customisable columns, a new tactics screen, and lots of new overview screens.
Tone – a whole new level has been added to team talks and conversations, with the new tone system, which allows you to specify the way you want to say things – be as cool as a cucumber by saying things calmly or throw tea cups around by saying things with passion. There are 5 different tones to choose from with specific comments per tone.
Brand New Tutorial – standing separate from the main game, a mode to help new players find their way around the game easily, whilst also offering tips to experienced managers on how to get the most out of the game, as well as a new in-game “how to” system.
On top of these key innovations, there are over 800 new features making huge improvements, such as the media system, press conferences, the youth system, newgens, the social networking options, friendlies, international management and many more which will be detailed in a series of video blogs over the coming months, alongside more information about Football Manager 2012.

― Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Monday, 12 September 2011 17:10 (thirteen years ago)
Being properly single for the first time in 6 years, a self-imposed money-saving regime and the ability to act like a dick to the press- I'm totally going to get this*. Haven't played it since 01/02.
*assuming it'll work on my 7yr old pc.

1. lol at yr username.2. yes!3. sorry at the single part?4. i think they have streamlined the actual game a lot, so maybe will work fine? like you can change level of detail or whatever to make it easier on yr pc?
― Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Monday, 12 September 2011 19:50 (thirteen years ago)
i hope they keep ilx's favourite "type in whatever you want in press conferences" feature...or i'll launch a string of expletives.
tempted by this as i try and stop drinking midweek to cope with extra work pressure.
― LocalGarda, Monday, 12 September 2011 20:12 (thirteen years ago)
1. thanks2. um, indeed!3. ah, I instigated it, it had to be done really.4. ooh I hope so. It's mainly graphics things that screw it up, so as long as I don't have to watch the fancy 3d representations then it should be ok. Can't seem to find system requirements anywhere yet. My flatmate's trying to persuade me to play CM2 in the meantime.

I genuinely don't get how productive adults might go about playing this year after year. I played Championship Manager in 2000 and it fucked up the year 2000 for me. I thought, after that, that I would avoid these games until I had serious time to kill. Ten years passed. I played Football Manager in 2010. I didn't really have time to kill but what the hell. 2010 was then fucked for me also. My sole achievement in 2010 - in the whole of life! - was winning the SPL ten times in a row. In a way, that was a fucking big deal, at least in the context of Scottish football. In other ways it was not: it had not actually taken place in the context of Scottish football but just in my drunken head and in my Dell PC. I got a big kick out of it and I'll do it again in 2020. But you all make it sound like you can do this in the same days that you work and create and make love etc. I wish I could, because there's nothing more fun!

I genuinely don't get how productive adults might go about playing this year after year.
i'm a manic depressive stoner who works part time and also have sleeping problems. don't think productive is a word i'd use to describe me. also would never expect someone productive to be a fan of, well, gaming in general let alone something as immersive as fm
― Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Monday, 12 September 2011 23:41 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, i'd have to choose btwn this, all of my other non-work activities, and gf. And if i choose this over the middle option then the third gets removed p quickly.
― hipstery nayme (darraghmac), Monday, 12 September 2011 23:42 (thirteen years ago)
This time last year I was in a similar situation but because I didn't get immersed into FM I foolishly got into a new relationship that didn't really work out in a good way for anyone. I want it to take up all my non-work time tbh (though I should do music practice and so on instead).
― Skrillex Ferguson (useless chamber), Monday, 12 September 2011 23:48 (thirteen years ago)
music, language, situps and learn programming- if only there was no ilx, fm, pes or fantasy novels

1. EURGH THIS IS SO UGLY WHY ADD SO MUCH SHIT TO THE SCREEN, I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO LOOK AT THINGS ANYMORE.
2. Wow taking away that highlight of when I have a player shortlisted from the player search screen is not going to become annoying at all, when I clicked on a youth I obviously cannot be bothered to remember the name of 12 times in a row.
It's like they hate people who like to talent scout themselves. Which is half the nerdy fun I had with this fucking game.
― Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 22 October 2011 20:39 (thirteen years ago)
I haven't got around to in-game play or anything yet, had a busy day, about to go to work and then won't be at my laptop till tuesday.

hey kerr or anyone else playing this - have you completed a season yet? i have started a new one and... don't have any new youths coming through? and there don't seem to be regens coming through elsewhere like they used to (say on the day a season started in brazil [jan 2nd] each club would have a new batch but now...?)

― a hoy hoy, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:24 (thirteen years ago)
i started with barca and completed a season and it was a bit weird, before the end of the first season we took some youths on trial for the youth team but none were deemed good enough after the month so didnt sign them. Yet at the start of the new season we took on new players anyway just like always happens. But i got offered the liverpool job when dalglish retired after my 2nd season and took it. And i just had a look at the barca under 19s and theres only like 5 players in it, the ones i all signed up on contracts age 15 or 16.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:28 (thirteen years ago)
btw i read up on http://www.fmrte.com/
i like the idea of using it for getting rid of severe injuries. But once i get a bit bored with the game in 6 months that wonderkid generator looks awesome! You could have a player with your name with full stats hahahaha. i'm not sure what else fmrte does but it looks like there's a LOT you can do with it. But i don't see the point of cheating with it when the game is just new. maybe in 6 months time if im bored of the game it will breathe new life into it. but has anyone here ever used it for previous games?
Here's some screenshots

when in the year were you asked about yuts on trial?
further along has anyone bought tevez? no-one seems at all interested in him, but city won't take an amount i can afford.
― a hoy hoy, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:47 (thirteen years ago)
it was like a month or 2 before the end of season. Have you set your asst manager to deal with it?
What is the in game editor? what can you do with it? i just start playing the game and never investigate anything!fmrte looks really comprehensive. Can change stats on players, make your club rich, give your club a sugar daddy, change capacity, generate wonderkids, get full fitness, coaching staff stats can be changed. You can destroy teams fitness etc before you play them. i bet you couldnt resist destroying spurs! lollooks like theres thousands of things you can do. im not gonna check it out til ive had a proper go though with this game. not gonna spoil it. maybe next year i'll max stats for accies and sign messi etc and win everything!
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 31 October 2011 18:04 (thirteen years ago)
real bought tevez in my game
looks like you can swap players to teams with rmte and also add squad/uefa registration so you can do it mid season. Also add 2nd nationalities and languages spoken.
but i shall not be tempted

Football Manager Real Time Editor is the first app to become available for FM 2012! FMRTE is mainly an in-game editor but also a scout tool available for Football Manager 2012.FMRTE has been available since FM 2008 and we have seen it evolve greatly since then. It is mostly known as the most popular save game editor that lets you change finances, club reputation, stadiums, kits, player attributes, personal information, CA / PA, positions, heal injuries, contracts and lots more with ease, while the game is loaded.
oh man i love the idea of designing a 3rd kit
wonder how you use it to scout the young players in the game

editor for 2011 did p much all of those things. dunno if you could design your own kits tho - would love to change our stupid fucking away shirt. also spurs usually destroy themselves, no need to cheat there (although they've just bought some sweet players *gulp*).
didn't set it for my AM, also went on holiday a lot - i usually see the second season, when regens become available, as when to start paying attention and getting obsessive! fuck this shit. Pat Rice has just fucking retired anyway.

yeah i always get bored midway through a season and holiday between games too
"full familiarity" I don't even know what that means tbh
I just have a tweaked tactic. Playing 4-2-3-1 mostly, 4-1-4-1 against the weaker ones. But even with the former they still can't break the defensive wall down.
Maybe my players are just twats.
― Y Kant Lou Reed (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 10 November 2011 15:21 (thirteen years ago)
oh the left hand side of your tactics screen, where you can save and change between set tactics, it will have a blue bar saying how familiar your team is to that set tactic, depending on how often they play that tactic and what they do in training/match preparation.
― GOIT BUZZ TOYS (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 10 November 2011 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

i'm currently 40m a year under my wage budget.

in contract negotiations, for the second time, after a £45m bid for Wilshere was accepted and refusing to pay the agent a £6m bonus. so what does he do? he offers me to pay THREE MILLION A YEAR LESS THAN ALREADY AGREED AND ONE AND HALF MILLION LESS THAN HE IS CURRENTLY BEING PAID BY ARSENAL TO WILSHERE just so he'd still get that bonus. They have made football agents as cuntish on the game as you presume they'd be in real life.
at £130m for Messi now and still being rejected.
― GOIT BUZZ TOYS (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 12 November 2011 21:11 (thirteen years ago)
So... after a contract dispute with Barca, Celik, 21 year old with absolutely incredible stats and the player who nearly knocked me out of the CL semi-final by scoring 2 in the second leg (he didn't play in the first, thank god) was going for a pawtry 11m. He is an AMC.
I have too many AMCs. It seemingly happened out of nowhere. I've moved Wilshere to LW. Rott, a regen I bought at 17 has knocked Ozil out of the German team can also play at CM I guess. Same with Trabelsi. Germain, who I swear is better than Messi but currently out for 3 months, can't play anywhere else. *breathes* Greenwood and Goddard have *so* much potential to the point where I don't want to sell them, in case anyone else reaps the rewards. Rafael was the star of my Brazil team who lost in the WC semis and won player of the fucking tournament.
I play 4-2-3-1, with two wingers because Chamberlain has to play (he scores like a goal a game). I've given up on a DM, in part because we weren't scoring enough, partly because Ramsey/my attacking playmaker regens were too good and because Busquiets/my regens weren't up to scratch.
Celik comes in a month and considering people are already annoyed at being 8 points off the league, I expect mutiny. Maybe give up on wingers and just play with 5 different central midifielders? I've been thinking about a way I can play with one centre-half, but I don't think it will work out. Or sell someone off? The only reason my squad is half-balanced atm is because I sold off anyone over 28 and now I don't want to give up the regens I worked hard to make 3time CL champions.
---
I have showered and applied for two jobs already today. Whenever I talk about meaningless hobbies I feel I need to throw these things in there.

Welcome back to the dark side NV. Please enjoy this motivational picture and daydream a little about the sort of malformed Eastern European regens that could be suckling from your nurturing teats any time now.

starting off my traditional "predicted 24th in League 2" team, this year it's Newport.
new tactics engine is lush

Yeah the tactics are a treat in this, easily the most fun I've had with it in ages. I've just hit a barrier, my ludicrously high intensity pressing game, suicidally high defensive line and murderous pace up front no longer cutting it against all the little teams (i.e. all of them but the top 3 or 4 in Europe) just sit deep and give me the ball. Beginning the gradual transition to a team of musclebound brutes who kick the shit out of the opposition, sit right back and rely on a set-piece or maybe one or two incisive attacks per game to get the win. Something very satisfying in watching your team bully their way to a clean sheets record. Yer man Oleg Russian in the screenshot up there is very much a harbinger of the new way.

Wish there was a way to specifically train up his aggression

How goes it on the Welsh coast, NV?
Wheels well and truly coming off the Villa project now. A shock 1-0 defeat in the league to Birmingham City had the fans up in arms, swiftly followed by a 3-0 capitulation to Schalke away in the Champs League, leaving us dangerously vulnerable to the dreaded head-to-head rule.
Gave the team a good tongue lashing both at half- and full-time, only for my star signing of the summer, Lucas Ocampos (who had been injured in pre-season and was making his full debut) to complain about it to the press. Told him where he could go in a fairly boisterous one-to-one meeting and he skipped the next training session. Back on the transfer list with ya.
Injury list is now looking totally absurd, including my main striker out till the end of the season.
And I've alienated my first-choice goalie as well. He disappeared halfway through last season for the Cup of Nations so I gave my 19 year old wonderkid a run in the side. Did so well that he's remained in the side ever since and now my proper first choice has handed in a transfer request and been banished to the reserves due to lack of playing time. Predictably the bottom has fallen out of the wee lad's form and my other guy won't even talk to me.
No money left to strengthen in Jan because my eyes were bigger than my bank balance and it's all gone on lovely little regens who are nowhere near ready for the big time. New tactics not sitting well with the lads at the moment.
I'm moaning but this is probably all motivated by the death drive that always kicks in when this game gets too easy, start roleplaying at the expence of trying to win games

i'm right at the beginning so i don't know yet, but my wage cap starts nearly maxed out and i've got a usable squad of about 16 players. looking to offload one particularly overpaid back-up at centre half and get some loans in, then i'm planning to go with an aggressive-ish 4-3-3 or 5-3-2 for more defensive games with a couple of swashbuckling wing backs and a stodgy-looking midfield 3 covering for them.

tbf all the board have asked is that i stay up first season, reckon that's eminently doable
― Emilia Fabbo (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 14:43 (eleven years ago)
Jack Wilshere's agent just asked for £4.3m in order for him to re-sign. Ta-ra hope he's happy at Chelsea.

35% approval rating on Steam but I haven't come across any Brexit moaning in the reviews yet, most of the complaints are about the AI and the match engine
― brex yourself before you wrex yourself (Noodle Vague), Friday, 25 November 2016 14:16 (eight years ago)
the 35% was from chinese people who were upset there was no chinese language version so they had websites troll SI boards and steam to make them change their mind (they did)
― Cosmic Slop, Friday, 25 November 2016 23:46 (eight years ago)
the game wasnt even out and they were giving it low ratings.

i dunno man, games journalism, *shrug*
i read a bunch of reviews today and they were the standard complaints that i see every time there's a new FM: the game engine's broken, the AI cheats, too many injuries etc. i never buy FM until the price comes down, and by then it's always patched, but most of these complaints are just losers who don't want to put the work in. i didn't notice a bunch of angry Chinese gamers any more than i came across any butthurt Brexiteers tbh
― brex yourself before you wrex yourself (Noodle Vague), Friday, 25 November 2016 23:57 (eight years ago)
because all the negative reviews were before the game was officially released forcing sega to agree to a chinese language version. There was thousands of bad reviews then.
