Manager of the Year, now he's a cunt.

Louis Jaha (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 17 September 2011 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

My membership pack arrived this morning, with a nice glossy paperback of Herbert Chapman's Thoughts On Football in there.

oooh whats that like ismael?

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:01 (thirteen years ago)

Haven't read the book but the pack's pretty good - got the book, a season preview dvd (my fault for applying late, now I know what's on it), a few other nicknacks and a nice lapel pin which I'd wear to work but y'know. The box itself is quite swish too.

I was going to go today as well (there were away tickets available a week ago but I was too indecisive). Really wish I had now.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:10 (thirteen years ago)

He'll stay I reckon but it's all getting a bit Rafa by now.

diouf est le papa du foot galsen merde lè haters (nakhchivan), Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:37 (thirteen years ago)

i'm a wenger fan but he won't be there by the end of the season. The game in england has moved on. Go then, arsewenger, there are other leagues than these.

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:40 (thirteen years ago)

to be clear, i don't think he should be sacked- but it'd be nice to know if has any money to spend or not. If he has cash but is refusing to spend it then.....yeah.

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

the systemic underinvestment is by far the most significant aspect of arsenal's recent failures, an uneasy collusion between a manager who doesn't demand investment and a board that is content with just being in the champions league every year

diouf est le papa du foot galsen merde lè haters (nakhchivan), Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

i think wenger is too mindful of 'value' to really pressure the board to cough up the inflated prices for people like cahill, mata, m'vila

diouf est le papa du foot galsen merde lè haters (nakhchivan), Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

exactly

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:44 (thirteen years ago)

I like Wenger even when he's being ungracious in defeat but I'll be surprised if he lasts the season. Arsenal need a change at this stage and he doesn't look like he's got any answers.

Michael B, Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:44 (thirteen years ago)

usually when wenger is being ungracious in defeat i'd be on his side- re reffing calls anyway. his tendency to bitch about opposition tactics is smdh x 1000

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Saturday, 17 September 2011 14:47 (thirteen years ago)

i'm not an Arsenal fan and I think Wenger will still be manager at the end of the season assuming the ownership structure remains the same

Louis Jaha (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 17 September 2011 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

srs, wenger out we are losing to chicken

I don't endorse this opinion, except the hilarious economical way in which it is stated.

boxall, Saturday, 17 September 2011 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

I'm an Arsenal fan and last season I was still 'Hodgson must stay' at Christmas.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 17 September 2011 15:31 (thirteen years ago)

For present purposes anyway. I'm paying (some of) Koscielny's wages, I feel I've got some sort of stake in this fiasco - that's some sort of fandom I guess.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 17 September 2011 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

And I am fine with that tbh.

Hope they don't sack him, those of us in Nth. Ldn. who are not Arsenal fans are enjoying this too much. They wouldn't find a better manager anyway.

iirc he recently purchased an official AFC membership to give discounted tickets as a gift.

boxall, Saturday, 17 September 2011 18:16 (thirteen years ago)

It's true. I'm trying to give Arsenal my second-best this year and to an extent it's working, but tbh these are just straight hilarious lols compared to the deliciously complex agony of pool last year.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 17 September 2011 18:39 (thirteen years ago)

Can't they just appoint Hodgson and get it over with.

Chris, Saturday, 17 September 2011 19:02 (thirteen years ago)

xp It's maybe a bit what sponsoring an urchin feels like. While nominally it's for altruistic reasons, there's always a hint of smugness there too. And if the scamp will insist on truanting, drinking and not signing proper defenders anyway, you'd feel aggrieved for a while but ultimately it's not going to ruin your own life.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 17 September 2011 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

tbf, can't blame chesney for any of it so that's still ok.

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Saturday, 17 September 2011 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

before this thread popped up i was thinking of putting together a list of potential replacements for a poll but then this popped up and i got stuck in a transfer embargo (great way to start the season, fuck you consortium who fucked off instead of making the mighty o's rich) and i gave up. terribly scared that rafa is one very high level name of unemployed managers looking for work in england. also scared that moyes may want a different challange and push to make himself a candidate.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

i am not an Arsenal fan, Wenger will be coach at the end of the season, but his contract (i don't know, this man has an eternal contract maybe?) anyway, it should not be renewed. time for a change, etc.

Ludo, Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

Sam, chill.

Upt0eleven, Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

prospect of rafa will never not make me scared as fukkk

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:35 (thirteen years ago)

moyes at arsenal, what an experiment

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:48 (thirteen years ago)

I saw Moyes being tipped by someone as a potential future Sunderland boss midweek ("they could do a lot worse"). It was a bit heartbreaking to hear, just seems like finally the whole world has given up on him getting a crack at the big time.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

Rafa would sort your defense out tbh. Happy for Wenger to stay though ;)

Chris, Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

the same rafa who signed the likes of dossena, kronkamp and degen etc.?

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 18 September 2011 06:19 (thirteen years ago)

don't mock, you'd kill for agger or skrtel. kyrgiakos would prob improve you too, would have been about an eighth of the price of mertesacker.

When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 September 2011 08:48 (thirteen years ago)

ya there is no room for an arsenal nor spurs fan to criticise rafa on defence

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Sunday, 18 September 2011 08:55 (thirteen years ago)

finally caught the highlights. mertesacker displaying some more of the statuesqueness he was giving out in the dortmund game

don't follow international football - how does he have 75 caps for germany

maxmombuffsnads (cozen), Sunday, 18 September 2011 08:57 (thirteen years ago)

Seeing Pat Rice on Saturday in his stupid shorts and sunglasses shouting impotently at the team just made me irrationally angry. I've no idea what he actually brings to the table.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 10:00 (thirteen years ago)

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 10:06 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah he just looks particularly stupid. Mike Phelan hate is justified but disproportionate when there are guys like this around:

http://dailyfootballnews.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/pat-rice-arsenal.jpg

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 10:13 (thirteen years ago)

And what does Phelan do now he doesn't have to give interviews anymore?

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 10:14 (thirteen years ago)

'bewildered supporting priest from Father Ted' is dead right xp

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 10:15 (thirteen years ago)

I don't get where this is coming from. I mean a football club is more than match day. Maybe there isn't a need for coaches to turn up on a Saturday when they could be working with the reserves instead? Like of course Pat Rice or Phelan or whoever does a shit ton of good work, you don't become an Assistant Manager at a major CL club and keep yr job for years if you are just a wet tissue.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 10:37 (thirteen years ago)

sometimes you can be the manager too yes.

Gary Numan, or Gary Fletcher (ken c), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 10:58 (thirteen years ago)

you don't become an Assistant Manager at a major CL club and keep yr job for years if you are just a wet tissue

was gonna answer this but ken nailed it really.

you can meet limited, non-committal boss-pleasers in any medium to large organisation, usually working at a level way beyond any actual talent they might have.

Impressive turnout. 11 Arsenal fans?

We did a 'where will they finish' poll for Liverpool, I think Arsenal and Stoke editions would be interesting.

I can see Stoke still being in the top six in January and then having a bit of a slump and finishing 7th or 8th.

Given that Guardiola walked away from one of the greatest club teams ever, why would you bet against Wenger deciding he just doesn't fancy it any more? I mean apart from the fact he's been stubborn as fuck up to now.
