This is not an endorsement or admission of sympathy btw.

"I am not a Stoke fan and I wish Pulis will have died in a fire by the end of the season."

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 28 September 2011 15:24 (thirteen years ago)

7th-10th I think. A lot of the clubs I'd have expected to be in that band are struggling and Stoke seem to get incrementally better year by year. As I said on the other thread, top six by Christmas only to then slip down a bit might be a possibility, bit like Bolton towards the end of Fat Sam's reign.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 28 September 2011 15:32 (thirteen years ago)

5th or 6th. I think there'll be an interloper in the top six this year; would like it to be Everton but Stoke more likely, though a battering off of Sunderland is a bit weird. I guess Newcastle and Villa have made good starts too.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 28 September 2011 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

thought they would get relegated during the pre season (wishful thinking more than anything else), now im thinking 5th or 6th

Michael B, Wednesday, 28 September 2011 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

With Newcastle a lot depends on how long they can keep their current momentum going and how well they respond to setbacks. A lot of their players seem decent but maybe not the toughest mentally, and Pardew is a shite manager with no idea how to fix things once they start going wrong. I can see a long purple patch followed by an equally long barren run.

stoke's problem, like ireland's, is that they haven't been powerful or violent enough

there is no reason why they should continue to field a single player who doesn't look like an nfl linebacker

ask morbs if he is better off than he was 4 days ago (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Friday, 7 September 2012 22:45 (twelve years ago)

you can see the logic in owen from a purely pragmatic perspective

maybe not good enough for the high-minded purists of routinized, rationalized brutality, but pulis has never been shy to scoff at bien pensant piety

An ex-Premier League academy footballer has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 10 years for killing his girlfriend.

Andrew Hall, 18, released by Stoke City in May, pleaded guilty to murdering Megan-Leigh Peat, 15, at a house in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, on 9 June.

Miss Peat, of Westoning, suffered at least 60 stab wounds in the attack.

welp.

is it time to reevaluate, or even <3

basically trolling nakhy here but there's something that seems almost necessary about them, like they are the universal indicator of the PL, the team against which all others can be judged

no wait you have cameron there, wilkinson is the oddity

bit scrawny-skinhead but as we all know those guys are the ones u gotta be most fearful of

torn between Carl Jenkinson, Scott Walker and Malcolm X (once a week is ample), Saturday, 29 December 2012 17:57 (twelve years ago)

cameron is one of the biggest fullbacks in the league outside of ivanovic, richards, demel, and he looks a bit like lúcio and plays a very tiny bit like lúcio which helps

the other fullback they were looking at in the summer was boenisch, who is easily one of the biggest fullbacks around, but i guess they need the impeccable NF stylings of wilkinson

this is what i want to see more of -- more bigness, more violence, more talent so long as the previous two are not attenuated

stephen n'zonzi is a bit rangy but was showing good violence today

Not sure how I feel about the mental toughness argument set against injuries to key players / other sides sussing out ways of keeping the key players in check, but feel like Matt DC deserves some small degree of recognition for this. Not quite fully borne out yet, but it's getting there.

Windsor Davies, Saturday, 29 December 2012 20:31 (twelve years ago)

Man that's a hell of a post, kudos

Stoke were really excellent putting us through the mill on St Stephen's Day. I hate 'em but I can't fault 'em.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 29 December 2012 20:35 (twelve years ago)

The first and third Stoke goals today were fabulous. Whatever issues I have with the team, it's great to see Kenwyne hit form again.

slitherin sockattacks (darraghmac), Sunday, 30 December 2012 00:29 (twelve years ago)

Really we dropped the ball last year with not having a Stoke v Swansea poll. Telling mediocre players what to do and making sure they do it works.

Matt DC, Sunday, 30 December 2012 01:05 (twelve years ago)

Both Stoke and Swansea are now too good to make that work btw.

Of course I was right about Pardew, I can't believe anyone thought otherwise in the first place.

Matt DC, Sunday, 30 December 2012 01:07 (twelve years ago)

pffft we have a fledgling thread dedicated to your more outrageous gaffes, this is an outlier imo

slitherin sockattacks (darraghmac), Sunday, 30 December 2012 01:11 (twelve years ago)

Also Michael Owen plays for Stoke. It's one of those things I keep forgetting and remembering and then thinking "fuck me, that actually happened". Like how John Major used to be Prime Minister.
