James Mitchell, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 09:33 (thirteen years ago)

Respect to Cesc for saying he shouldn't be on the shortlist.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:07 (thirteen years ago)

They have to fill it up somehow. I voted for Rooney Messi.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:10 (thirteen years ago)

Yes, fuck being trying to be clever, it's Messi.

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:12 (thirteen years ago)

Should have left Messi off to keep it interesting.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:17 (thirteen years ago)

I'm going to run a proper ILF awards dinner in a few weeks. I'll sing a few tunes, onimo's going to do a bit of stand-up, NV and darragh will put on a magic show.

What categories do we think would work? I reckon team of the year, best player (separate British and international awards), rotter of the year, top lol - anything else?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:27 (thirteen years ago)

Animated .jif of the year.

James Mitchell, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:29 (thirteen years ago)

Troll of the year (footballing, not on-board).

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:33 (thirteen years ago)

genuinely, now-

no bale, no credibility

I mean, rooney ffs?

occupy wall street 2: rummy never sleeps (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:37 (thirteen years ago)

Racist of the Year

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:46 (thirteen years ago)

how do you spoil a vote in this bitch

occupy wall street 2: rummy never sleeps (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 10:47 (thirteen years ago)

no bale, no credibility

lol

Number None, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 11:01 (thirteen years ago)

well admittedly i'd need to check the time period in question etc but cmon

occupy wall street 2: rummy never sleeps (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 11:15 (thirteen years ago)

If the time period covers the two matches against Inter and nothing else then yeah, he should be on the list

Number None, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 11:36 (thirteen years ago)

no silva no cred

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 11:45 (thirteen years ago)

Glad Nani made the list

Number None, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 11:48 (thirteen years ago)

which consecutive matches does rooney qualify under, i wunder

occupy wall street 2: rummy never sleeps (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 12:01 (thirteen years ago)

I don't for one second think Rooney should be on there

Number None, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 12:08 (thirteen years ago)

They have to have one English player on there, and if Theo isn't on it I suppose it has to be Rooney

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 12:09 (thirteen years ago)

ismael - manager of the year, nult roast of the year, goal of the year, best balotelli moment

a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 12:23 (thirteen years ago)

Rooney has had a fucking shit year, only made it because he scored in the CL final. No English player deserves to make it. Cesc has been injured all fucking year except for like a month. van Persie should be there, he is 2011's second best striker behind Cavani - who also didn't make it - wtf???

WAIT HOW THE SHIT IS FORLAN THERE?

WHAT THE SHIT DID ETO'O DO IN 2011?

SILVA, FRANCE FOOTBALL? OUI?

Oh wait this is now merged with the Fifa WPOTY award, right? Was gonna go mental about Neymar making a European Player of the Year list.

a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 12:27 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, it's merged. Eto'o somehow managed to become the world's highest paid footballer, so fair play

Number None, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 12:31 (thirteen years ago)

it can't be said enough but fuck Fifa.

Eto'o is there just because there wasn't really another impressive African BIG NAME in 2011 was there? I mean Gervinho and Sow had awesome seasons at Lille (as did Hazard - where tf is he?) but lol french football for a French award.

a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 12:33 (thirteen years ago)

d bent

And cosign rvp tbf

occupy wall street 2: rummy never sleeps (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 12:36 (thirteen years ago)

Don't they just shuffle the same names around every year until someone retires or gets really shit?

In fairness to Silva he was only 'very good indeed' last season and if he should be in there then so should Modric. This season Silva's been exceptional obviously.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

this season so far has been part of 2011 iirc?

a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:07 (thirteen years ago)

i really have no idea what time period this refers to if forlan is still on the list.

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:10 (thirteen years ago)

it's always been kind of a mystery what period these things cover though

Number None, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:10 (thirteen years ago)

This is based on performance January - December, 2011, right?

Also, why is Piqué on this list?

Muammar for the road (Michael White), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:11 (thirteen years ago)

Well he deserves to be on there more than Abidal does

Number None, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:12 (thirteen years ago)

The FIFA site says the Puskás Award is based on performances between 1 January 2011 and 18 October 2011, oddly.

James Mitchell, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:34 (thirteen years ago)

Woe betide the player who has a kickass November/December then

Muammar for the road (Michael White), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:37 (thirteen years ago)

How was Forlan at the Copa. iirc Suarez was better.

pandemic, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

eh there should be a question mark after Forlan above there

pandemic, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

Forlan was great in the final, but yeah Suarez was better.

boxall, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

The Puskas Award is for the best goal of the year Michael. Anyway if you have a kick-ass November/December you'll probably win the PFA award

Number None, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

two months pass...
