I'm still on the phone but anyway.
This needed a dedicated thread from the announcement of an inquiry onwards, and definitely since the reaction of LFC to the punishment meted out.
ILF has thoughts. Let's hear em.

The last 24 hours have changed everything, because it's clear Fenway and Standard Chartered have taken over handling now. Hoping this thread can dwindle away now.
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 February 2012 15:29 (thirteen years ago)
no fun.
― beware of greeks bearing petrol bombs (darraghmac), Monday, 13 February 2012 15:37 (thirteen years ago)
i don't think that this issue is closed while suarez has failed to apologise to evra for any offence caused.
that, imo, is no more of an admission than has already been made, and, had it occurred the day after the event, would probably have consigned the whole thing to 'minor spat' status.
― beware of greeks bearing petrol bombs (darraghmac), Monday, 13 February 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)
what i don't understand is why
why john terry didn't get 8 match banwhy suarez got 8 match banwhy is john terry charged for racismwhy is suarez not charged for racism
― Rosie 47 (ken c), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 11:45 (thirteen years ago)
i don't understand why they believed evra and not suarez surely if you believe one you have to believe the other or else believe neither and if thats the case surely they couldn't have found suarez guilty of been a racist
― beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 11:52 (thirteen years ago)
because you can't trust anyone from south america?
― Rosie 47 (ken c), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 11:54 (thirteen years ago)
but if you read the report you'll see that evra lied and suarez told the truth and evra had the video in front of him and suarez didn't and when you think of how they treated degsy hatton it's a disgrace
― beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 12:00 (thirteen years ago)
Would be interesting to see, if Terry is cleared, whether the FA would take the case forward given the lower burden of proof required. I'd assume not. Getting charged by the CPS might actually get him out of a lengthy ban.
― Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 12:37 (thirteen years ago)
i'd assume they would, tbh
― beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 12:48 (thirteen years ago)
I'd hope they would but having a 'not guilty' verdict in a court of law might make it challenging from a PR perspective.
― Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 12:52 (thirteen years ago)
that would be a shambles
― beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 12:56 (thirteen years ago)
perhaps but as you say the standard of proof is different. iirc a not guilty verdict in a criminal case doesn't prevent somebody from bringing a civil suit against you, for example.
― dayove cool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 12:57 (thirteen years ago)
tbf we all know that, but relying on the fa to run with it might be, as sharivari says, optimistic
― beware of greek bearer bonds (darraghmac), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 13:00 (thirteen years ago)
Would be a disgrace if they didn't. For one thing, the fact there's a prosecution at all means the evidence against JT must be much stronger than against Suarez.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 13:26 (thirteen years ago)
1. Because the FA aren't allowed to do anything that might prejudice Terry's trial2. Read the report3. Because there has to be an official complaint from someone4. See above
― Number None, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 15:00 (thirteen years ago)
4. Even if there was a complaint, the evidence in Suarez's case wouldn't be enough to get a conviction. Which is why I'd be curious to know exactly what they've got on Terry.

quite a few people on my facebook have been approvingly posting this Roy Keane "quote" over the past few days"If I was playing, if Incey was playing, if Sparky was playing: Suarez ends the game wishing he'd shaken hands"

(and You'll Never Walk Alone)
Is Keano one for nicknames? I can almost imagine him erring in the other direction and plumping for Mr Ince, Mr Hughes.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 20:43 (thirteen years ago)
Speaking four months ago he said: 'Chops is a very, very good striker. Whether our club can afford him on his wages remains to be seen.'
Meanwhile, Keane has told four players they do not figure in his future plans for Ipswich even thought they all have a year to run on their current contracts.

Keane does do nicknames i think, but the fact that people believed he might actually have a twitter was somewhat surprising.

I think Keane generally goes with the "first names for good guys, surnames for wanks" rule.

keano only does nicknames when he's being sarcastic iirc.
