pick a different Champions League semifinalist

might be a stupid thread idea, but w/e

Madrid, Barca and Bayern have all seemed like legit 'top 4 in Europe' clubs this season, dropped points in domestic leagues aside. I'm guessing they were 1st, 2nd and 3rd favorites to win the Champions League from the start of the season. Chelsea look like they have a coherent squad and a strategy they know how to execute, finally, but would many ppl claim they're representative of the highest level of club football in 11/12? Doubtful.

Which of the below sides would you have instead of Chelsea, not "for the lols" but for highest quality of play to a neutral viewer? Quality meaning competitiveness as much as viewing pleasure, grinding negativity is OK with me if it's effective.

Made sticking w/ Chelsea an option as well.

Dortmund. Dunno, hipsters choice, but it'd be good to see such a young and more or less home-grown (okay, another after Barca) team Challenging At The Top Level.

would've said dortmund if they werent so completely shit in europe this year - not worth having them in there just to get pumped though so i think i'm happy with the familiar intrigues of chelsea, who tbf are the only side here who would give(/are giving) barca a game.

I think I've given up on Inter matches after 30 or 40 minutes of awful play at least a half-dozen times this season.

Probably voting Juventus but Dortmund appeal as well.

If there were a club below the top four leagues sweeping all before them like Porto of 10/11, I would've included them as well. Don't think that's true of Ajax, or this year's Porto. Montpellier are impressive but didn't seem to belong in this company either.

and I like watching Serie A, I think it has a lot to recommend it and prob deserves a spot here. Milan did a decent job against Barcelona despite key injuries.

napoli's the answer really

r|t|c, Friday, 20 April 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)

napoli won't even be in the champs league next season. they've been chronic of late.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Friday, 20 April 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

yeah I like Lavezzi, Cavani, Gargano, Inler & I hear they have the new hot-commodity Chilean winger too, but their defence is pathetic.

boxall, Friday, 20 April 2012 21:45 (thirteen years ago)

Bilbao!

I'd like to see what juventus are made of I guess, but I can wait 'til next year for that. There's usually one dud team in the semis anyway, Chelsea have earned their turn.

Yeah what am I saying, Liverpool this season would grace any cup.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 10:54 (thirteen years ago)

Dortmund.

Also Napoli > City.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 13:21 (thirteen years ago)

I know - it's just a mental exercise. I think Chelsea are entirely deserving of their place.

I've enjoyed watching Bilbao this season but couldn't justify including them. Wish I could've seen more of Lille as well.

boxall, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:24 (thirteen years ago)

Chelsea may well have been the correct answer.
