BLACK Cat striker Connor Wickham has been left devastated after the disappearance of his dog.

The 18-year-old has turned to the Echo for help in the hope pet pug Louis will be returned safely.

Eight-month-old Louis went missing from Connor’s home in the Darras Hall Estate, in Ponteland, on Wednesday between 10am and 11am.

Connor, who was Steve Bruce’s big summer signing last year, said: “I’ve had him for five months now and he’s like my shadow when I’m at home, he follows me everywhere.

“I’m really missing him.”

He added: “I let him out into the garden on Wednesday morning but the gate was shut and locked. I’ve spoken to neighbours since who said they saw him on the side of the road.

“It’s unusual for him to go off on his own. He’s never been past the drive on his own before.”

Since Louis’ disappearance, Connor has been out putting posters up around the estate and has contacted dog wardens in the hope Louis, who is microchipped, has been found.

The latest news is that a silver car may have picked up Louis, who is fawn with a black face, on Wednesday morning in the Callerton Lane, Stamfordham Road area.

Connor said: “Louis needs treatment every day. Because of his breed his eyes get really dry and he has to have eye drops to stop ulcers forming otherwise he could go blind. He already has scars on his eyes from previous operations to remove ulcers.

“I’m worried that the person who has him won’t know how to look after him properly.”

Scores of fans have taken to Twitter to offer their help to Connor.

“It’s nice to know so many people have been supportive, even though they’ve never met Louis,” he said.
