There is no such person. It's quite obviously a ghostwritten amalgamation of anecdotes.
Right?

think so yah, although maybe say 70% might come from one specific player. idk.

but off the top of my head for it to be one actual player he'd have to have been promoted with a club, been a club's POTY at least twice, played abroad and many more things that don't fit a specific british player

I was convinced a lot of recent ones are Jason Roberts, but there's definitely one that's Michael Owen - threatened with relegation, he goes to the manager for a chat about an upcoming game & says "I can't be relegated, it's too embarrassing". Manager gets angry: "Oh yeah? How'd you think it makes me feel?"
If that doesn't explain how Shearer got his Newcastle side playing like they did, I know nothing.

Joe Cole ticks most if not all of those boxes except possibly the promotion. Don't think it's him though.

I'm pretty sure it's one player writing it, but that they have taken the experiences of lots of others to feed into the column. There are, I believe, only three people at the Guardian who knew his identity. And one of those found out by accident.

The Secret Footballer was still playing as late as 2011. He is English, has played for at least two Premier League clubs and was relegated from the top flight on the final day of the season...The Secret Footballer grew up on a council estate in rural England and only began playing organised football relatively late. He signed his first professional terms at the age of 21 and had what he describes as a lucrative career.
