non-elitist melted poo (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 January 2013 20:58 (twelve years ago)

na

about right

the standard rating of him as a talented but underambitious central player is offset by roving packs of knowall cunts proclaiming him the essential midfield player

lemmy's rabbles (darraghmac), Monday, 21 January 2013 21:15 (twelve years ago)

Clicked 'slightly underrated' - then I remembered that he almost never gets a thought for England, which *is* downright ludicrous.

knowall cunts proclaiming him the essential midfield player

Don't think anyone actually does this?

He was kinda overrated a couple of years back, when he was very poor for them, but he's improved. Never a player that's going to get the blood racing though.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 11:41 (twelve years ago)

So true. My heart sinks when I look at my ff team and see him sitting inertly on its bench.

Poll needs option for "Michael who? Oh him"

Designated Striver (Tom D.), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 11:51 (twelve years ago)

What on earth is Carrick, or any holding midfielder for that matter, doing anywhere near anyone's FF team?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 11:51 (twelve years ago)

I know :(

sure they do. finest english passer of his generation, the british pirlo, xabi alonso once namechecked him you know, if only he was spanish, etc

r|t|c, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 12:19 (twelve years ago)

No one says "the British Pirlo" with a straight face. "The closest England have to Pirlo" is a different thing although I accept it's making the word 'closest' do a lot of work.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 12:36 (twelve years ago)

i heard somebody on 5 Live - forget who, possibly Ron Atkinson??? - talk about him in the same sentence as Pirlo only the other night

you jelly like bitter lemon (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 12:38 (twelve years ago)

anyway the England team wd have been less of a farce with a few more boring Carrick-esque dudes over the last 10 year

you jelly like bitter lemon (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 12:39 (twelve years ago)

He's come on a lot defensively tbh. His crabwise passing metronomy is an overrated aspect of his game, one that england and utd both can do without or can better with other players i think

standard disclaimer applies (darraghmac), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 12:48 (twelve years ago)

We can surely agree that Carrick > Barry.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 12:51 (twelve years ago)

not even in doubt

one year passes...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2660483/Michael-Carrick-Englands-Andrea-Pirlo-Barbados-not-Brazil.html

'It’s a real shame for Carrick that one side-effect was losing his place on the greatest stage. He was downbeat about the news — and I know because I was with him when he got the call to say he wasn’t going. Nemanja Vidic and I took him to the pub for a consolation drink,' said Ferdinand.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 07:21 (ten years ago)

despite his likely complete silence vidic somehow seems like an ideal third man for a pub sesh

r|t|c, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 07:24 (ten years ago)

silence until about the middle of your third pint when he looks up, spits "fuck 'em" with a worrying amount of restrained bile, then returns to his drink

Kevin from Blechgium (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 18 June 2014 08:20 (ten years ago)

yeah

and nobody would ever bother ye
