think a dose of therapeutic bigness in the form of dunne and vlaar should inch u up to about sixteenth

moët plaudit (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 22:12 (twelve years ago)

He's staying, whether in the Premier League or Championship is the question. Sadly, I'm voting Championship.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 22:13 (twelve years ago)

Lambo all thinking back to 4am last night - hopped up on red bull, shirtless, doing all like muscle flexes and whispering "yaaaaa" into the mirror and shit - wondering where it all went wrong

Sgt. Biscuits, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 22:14 (twelve years ago)

Lambo pauses to reflect that Villa actually won the game tonight, before casually contemplating recalling Stephen Warnock, suicide, and calling that priest, in that order

Sgt. Biscuits, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 22:16 (twelve years ago)

"think a dose of therapeutic bigness in the form of dunne and vlaar should inch u up to about sixteenth"

The very idea of Richard-Dunne-as-saviour says it all though really. FWIW I don't think the combo of Vlaar/Dunne at the back is gonna solve much. Might reduce the number of goals shipped from set pieces and perhaps calm things down a bit out there (though heaven knows Dunne has as great a gift for spreading calamity and ruin in defence as most of those young'uns) but the rot is set in deeper than that. Joe Bennett might be able to swing a good ball in every 1 out of 3 opportunities he gets, but he is woefully, woefully out of his depth at left back. Kinda feel bad for the kid at times (rest of the time just want to taser him right between the eyes tbh). He looks like he should still be playing 5-a-side with his mates on a grotty POWERLEAGUE pitch off near Star City.

Benteke also not as good as commentators / pundits / texters into the MBMs make him out to be. Definitely our best player by miles and rightfully deserves more praise than the rest of them. But if he was half as good as they say he is then we'd have won that game. All that fucking gushing about what a threat he is in the air, but he couldn't stick a single one of his 8 or 9 headers on goal in the net tonight. I'm aware this is pretty ridic, bitching about the man who is patently our star player and more or less the only good thing going for us, but I'm seeing him get mentioned alongside Michu as signing of the season and all that bollocks. But he offsets all of his effectiveness and good goals and all the rest of that bollocks by being so wasteful. Cost us against West Brom, cost us tonight.

Villa to go down. Painful as it is to say it. Can't see us sticking together a decent run of form as the clubs around us start picking up points.

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 22:46 (twelve years ago)

They have been busy in the transfer market but the main reason for predicting a much-improved Premier League placing for Villa this season is the arrival of the single-minded Lambert. I expect Villa to be much more formidable this season.

Finishing position - 8th

is this the first time he has made any prediction not of the 'formidable catalans barcelona will be a threat in the champions league this year' variety

He's staying, whether in the Premier League or Championship is the question. Sadly, I'm voting Championship.

I think so and would say in the epl, because Reading, Southampton, QpR, Wigan - except that I'm wondering whether he might actually fancy a crack at the Championship and that'll somehow be enough to bring it about. Would going down and absolutely clearing the decks do them good à la Newcastle? Villa's next generation (not the visibly wilting current bunch) is rumoured to be very good indeed.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 14:20 (twelve years ago)

They dont have any decks to clear in the way newcastle did tho?

Ireland, N'Zogbia, Bent, Given, etc. Not quite Newcastle-level, but clearly not Lambert's People.

Good luck selling them, right enough.

Still think villa will survive and do well under lambert with youth, i cherish my naivety as applied to other ppl's teams

lol xxp - maybe it's from the Bradford chaplain, they play in claret too

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 15:24 (twelve years ago)

Half of the proceeds were to go to Phil Dowd, thus guaranteeing the Villa a league cup final place, but nobody bit and Dowd reverted to his natural state

Sgt. Biscuits, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 15:34 (twelve years ago)

Bloke opposite me on the train this morning had a Villa scarf on. He seemed neither morose nor defiant, and as a result I couldn't rouse myself to feel either pity or mockery. It may be that he was just wearing it because of the cold.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)

Maybe the half you couldnt see was bradford

I'm not inclined to think they'll go down, but the last couple of games I've seen, they've looked like they might have difficulty staying up in the Championship.

Canaille help you (Michael White), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 16:41 (twelve years ago)

They seem to have less fight in them than any other relegation-threatened team, but Lerner stuck with McLeish right until the end of last season. Think he'll probably stay til the end of the season and leave if they get relegated.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 16:44 (twelve years ago)

I've gone for the 'Newcastle in a very much two points dropped' scenario.

Lambo all racking up a record number of consecutive games where "you're getting sacked in the morning" is chanted at him

of course, the joke's on them

Steve Kean setting the bar high there though

Ismael Klata, Friday, 25 January 2013 21:49 (twelve years ago)

yeah, was very much envisaging this Lambo run extending into 2017, when his move to the newly formed FC Villa of Erdington is judged to have caused the record to end on a technicality, causing much rancour on his Wikipedia entry's Talk page

For people saying oh but the players need our backings. That is bullshit they dont care about us as is modern football and the fans are the ones bankrolling their lifestyles with these ripoff ticket prices and what do they do for us? FUCK ALL.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 25 January 2013 22:34 (twelve years ago)

lambert has spent a fair bit on fees but whereas some random from sheffield united at 3m might be on £20k pw, heskey for a similar fee took £50k or whatever

moët plaudit (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Friday, 25 January 2013 22:35 (twelve years ago)

Maybe xp, but that wasn't why he got booed - it was 'cause they were drawing 0-0 at halftime against Real Madrid, or something like that.
