Wonderful illustration of the English condition. Can't remember the last time a team of ours won something on the basis that they were the best team. Always has to be some last-ditch desperadoism, otherwise everyone watching feels that they've been mugged off a bit. Not exactly a recipe for success, but it makes for a good fairytale every couple of years.

Voting Liverpool btw, because Stevie G's 2nd half was as emphatic as you like. That's the best i can get out of this lot

The Chelsea win is a blot on the entire competition - like when Steaua Bucharest won the old European Cup

???

That sounds wrong, but now I stop to think about it, I can't actually remember what happened in Arsenal's or Chelsea's final. Literally the only thing at all I can remember about either match is that Lehman got himself sent off very early on - but did Arsenal somehow take the lead? How long were United ahead for against Chelsea? Both goals were in the first half, I remember that much.

Are we talking emphatic campaigns or emphatic finals? United's 98/99 campaign was pretty emphatic (undefeated, broke the record for goals scored in the group stages despite being up against Bayern and Barcelona, knocked out Inter, beat Juventus at their place), but they were outplayed for much of the final. Liverpool's final was pretty much the definition of unemphatic - they were absolutely walloped apart from the crazy five-minute spell where they pulled it back. It's difficult to choose any of these, but I suppose by definition it's got to be United 99 because they did actually win the match, in normal time as well, rather than forcing a draw and winning on penalties.

Emphatic finals.

In 2006 Campbell scored on 37 minutes, Eto'o equalised on 76.

In 1999 Utd led for about five seconds, if that.
In 2005 Liverpool never led.
In 2007 Liverpool never led.
In 2008 Ronaldo scored on 26 minutes, Lampard equalised on 45.
In 2009 Utd never led.
In 2011 Utd never led.
In 2012 Chelsea never led.

Leading a Champions League semi final for twice as long as all the other English sides combined is like winning a trophy.

When they lost to Man U in the CL, Arsene Wenger really believed they would win. That's worth a trophy imo.

tbh liverpool were more emphatic in 20 mins than the rest of them managed in the other finals combined
