fanbase appears to be so sceptical of martinez that not only is pereira heavily favoured but they'd rather rangnick too

kenwright falling head over heels for lil twinkling bobby is so predictable i'm surprised anyone's bothering to still discuss it

r|t|c, Saturday, 1 June 2013 11:13 (eleven years ago)

i would imagine the desire for pereira is a cry for the club to be taken seriously, to resist the patronising woolly homilies of the media's martinez matchmaking. plucky everton should be happy to hang in there etc

bit harsh on martinez but understandable

A succession of midtable finishes it may have been, but it was punctuated with glorious defeats of apparently superior teams and some fairly decent football along the way. Only a tiny minority wanted to 'push for Europe' - most of us were very happy just being there, trying to mix it with the big boys, taking our small share of glory. Football support is not something best served terminal - you shouldn't follow a team aiming for continual success and domination - that way madness lies (and heaven knows there are enough mad cunts with a sense of entitlement following football).

Gonna be so glorious when we beat you en route to another 9th-place finish

You wilfully misunderstood that post too - I was saying that one shouldn't expect or demand success, but rejoice it when or if it comes, if one wants to have a healthy and functional relationship with club football. Everton should appoint the best available manager and strive, tactically and emotionally, to win every game they play.

it's an uninspiring shortlist. bob martin is the most sensible and least interesting hire. i dunno. most likely any of these guys come in, they can't tread water anything like as successfully as moyes and they are gone inside 3 years. however, if somehow they did a decent job, i am sure martinez is the only one who would still be around much longer than 3 years anyway.

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 1 June 2013 13:06 (eleven years ago)

lol yeah vitor perreira, two portuguese league wins in two seasons and champions league last 16 is pretty uninspiring for a team as magnificent as everton

yeah managing porto and everton, p much exactly the same thing. excited to see those league wins roll in.

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 1 June 2013 13:18 (eleven years ago)

if u had any knowledge beyond the parochial it might mean something

ghosts of erith spectral crackhouse slain rudeboy (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Saturday, 1 June 2013 13:20 (eleven years ago)

lolll

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 1 June 2013 13:21 (eleven years ago)

everton fans possibly even more entitled than the other plebs down the road

ghosts of erith spectral crackhouse slain rudeboy (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Saturday, 1 June 2013 13:24 (eleven years ago)

perreira supposedly interviewed with kenwright but he is yet to sign a new contract with porto so that could just be tarting for a payrise

rangnick has 'been linked' to english teams for years because he trained here and is described as an anglophile (as mancini used to be) but is pretty high risk given the way he left schalke & how the english press will react to any sign of weakness

so martinez still probably the most likely

ghosts of erith spectral crackhouse slain rudeboy (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Saturday, 1 June 2013 13:35 (eleven years ago)

I'm not quite sure why Perreira would give up Porto for Everton. All things being equal he's the most exciting option for them but so not gonna happen.

Matt DC, Saturday, 1 June 2013 15:19 (eleven years ago)

doesn't seem likely but if any of his interest is genuine then it's probably cuz everton were paying moyes £4m a year and he's wondering if they will pay him that (no)

landslide, constituencies were lighting up blue-and-white all across my map

Ismael Klata, Monday, 3 June 2013 22:42 (eleven years ago)

I need to see Nate Silver's analysis.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 12:25 (eleven years ago)

Happy with RM Michael?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 12:37 (eleven years ago)

No, not really.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 13:57 (eleven years ago)

He is proven at beating relegation around 80 per cent of the time.

... (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 13:59 (eleven years ago)

All Everton managers since 1951 have a 100% record in that regard. Even Mike Walker.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 14:12 (eleven years ago)

be nice to see what RM can do with some defenders at his disposal tbf

Shame it didn't occur to him to sign any in his four years at Wigan.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 14:31 (eleven years ago)

also looking forward to tony hibbert's conversion to the right hand side of a central midfield trio, except the weeks when he plays down the left wing

ghosts of lower belvedere high technology sludge incinerator (imago), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 14:36 (eleven years ago)

After a slow start, each year RM will have Everton hitting form around April

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 14:39 (eleven years ago)

I'd have been happy with Conchita Martinez.
