Long has been linked with us for 6 or 7 straight transfer windows, as has Jordan Rhodes. So not gonna happen imo.

We thought they were after Vaughan but it turns out the Celtic scouts were watching Oliver Norwood, who happened to be on fire and scored a screamer in both of the games that Lennon watched. Be some good business - a clutch of good performances and suddenly the invisible man is worth £3 million, could never pull shit like that off when we were in League One.
― Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Thursday, 9 January 2014 20:57 (eleven years ago)
International career
Although he was born in England, Norwood's heritage is Northern Irish; it is this heritage that has allowed him to represent both England and Northern Ireland in international football.

no way he doesn't end up at celtic at some point, might as well be on favourable terms for you
― Pedro Mba Obiang Avomo est un joueur de football hispano-ganéen (nakhchivan), Thursday, 9 January 2014 21:02 (eleven years ago)
I am probably being a bit harsh on him but he is often such a frustrating bugger because you know he can do better than most of his anonymous performances, especially last season. He has mostly been excellent for NI so this probably kept him on Celtic's radar
― Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Thursday, 9 January 2014 21:51 (eleven years ago)
"frustrating bugger", "anonymous performances" - sounds like a Celtic player.

Griffiths >>> every striker on our books. Dunno why people are so against signing him.
Just watched a youtube vid of his 28/29 goals for last season's pish Hibs team and he's clearly a decent finisher. We don't have any of those.

i love how all these ex champo / league one starlets they buy for £2m apiece end up playing barcelona the next year and mostly not disgracing themselves
― Pedro Mba Obiang Avomo est un joueur de football hispano-ganéen (nakhchivan), Monday, 27 January 2014 21:17 (eleven years ago)
Aye we need that one good European game every season to help move them on to slightly higher than champo level for more than 2 million then we do it all again.

I'm not denying he's better than Bangura, Balde and Pukki (tbh I suspect *I'm* better than them, and I'm 41, female, overweight, have only one functioning leg, and haven't kicked a ball in anger for about 20 years), but I still think he's a dick and I reserve the right not to like people who I think are dicks. Hopefully he'll stop being a dick when faced with Johan Mjallby scowling at him every morning. I'm certainly convinced he will score more goals than Balde, Bangura, Pukki and Samaras combined, but mostly I'm going to need a new get-rich-quick strategy if someone comes in to threaten my Kris-Commons-first-goal free-money-printing machine.
― ailsa, Monday, 27 January 2014 23:41 (eleven years ago)
By "people" I meant the Timternet who decided he would be a bad buy because he's unproven at champs league level, like every other striker we buy.
― cis het boy (onimo), Tuesday, 28 January 2014 00:28 (eleven years ago)
Right-o. I do so love how there's a large corner of the internet who have an inherent mistrust of anyone Scottish who has shown any promise* (bargain basement, no imagination, club showing lack of ambition yadda yadda yadda) but any unheard-of foreigner is probably the next Lionel Messi. Because, as we all know, Celtic have never signed a duff foreigner ever, and Scottish players are all crap.
*somehow Robert Snodgrass appears to be the only exception to this, but I bet if we'd signed him from Livingston everyone would have moaned their fucking faces off
― ailsa, Tuesday, 28 January 2014 00:42 (eleven years ago)
Griff has been more or less the opposite of a dick for us, sat tight and given his all thru a personally shitty last 18 months, can't function as a lone striker but put a link man alongside him and will score pretty much anywhere imo, will probably go to Celtic now or in the summer once y'all stop dicking about re: the fee
clearly he's temperamental, but like an artist, not a diva
― schlager top (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 January 2014 00:52 (eleven years ago)
He played as a lone striker quite often for Hibs - or at least was often completely disconnected from his nominal strike partner who was making up the numbers in midfield - and still scored plenty.
― cis het boy (onimo), Tuesday, 28 January 2014 13:05 (eleven years ago)
something's not been clicking with Kenny Jackett's system, tho i guess it could be off-pitch issues. he is a very good finisher tho.
― rock nobster (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 January 2014 13:07 (eleven years ago)
“There has been more talk and dialogue today I believe,” said Jackett.
“But that was all above me as I was concentrating on the game today.
“Leigh’s attitude has been good and he’s with the other players but there has been further contact today and we will see where that goes.
“The Chairman and the Chief Executive have been handling that side of it and there will be a valuation for a player who is 23 years old, a very good goalscorer and an international as well.
“It does seem that Celtic are very interested.”

theres got to be a good chance of david moyes managing celtic in the near future, nobody in the top half of the epl will employ him and a lateral move to his alma mater would be less humiliating than moving to hull or cardiff
