Obviously Gerrard. Frank's done well, had a great career and all, but he's not and never has been as good as Gerrard.

Lampard has never been as totemic to his club as Gerrard has to his but i'm not sure that makes Stevie G the better player. Lampard's technique and teamwork better imo, so reluctantly giving him the nod.

much of gerrard's appeal, talents is that intangible asset 'leadership', inspiration, what have you. dragging an ok liverpool team to cups and trophies and moments of eternal glory through sheer force of will and the harnessing of a type of power and energy that thrills in a way that lampard's talented accountancy with a football never did and couldn't.

lampard embodies, i guess, a large part (titter) of the whys and wherefores mourinho's chelsea (and take that as chelsea btwn mourinho appointments tbh) machine have won leagues and titles- excellence and consistency in pursuing proven solutions within a trusted system

gerrard couldn't, in all probability, have been the player he has been under such constraints. a mark against him, imo. but hard to begrudge him that when you fire up the highlight reels- lampards will be longer, but not if you include replays of that worth replaying.
