this american life - tho i tend to find i like to pick and choose, i don't enjoy every show.
there are some good history ones, like just pick a topic and search around a bit, can be very interesting.
if you can browse web then radio 4 generally is worth a look, some of it is obv kinda dull but there are some great seasons and one off shows, really removes the mind from work.

How can you guys listen at work? I can cope with a bit of quiet music, if it's familiar, but anything else going on and work's out the window.

my job is frequently a heads down firing words into the galaxy affair. it's not as boring as that sounds but ime i'm just as likely to put on music or a podcast to make me concentrate on work and shut out the noise of the office as i am to turn these off due to being distracted.

It's maybe not as in depth on the big leagues as you'd like, and it has a North American bent to it for sure, but I like Soccer Morning: http://nasn.tv/category/shows/american-soccer-morning/

Topics. It's two comedians, Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black. so you might expect it to be funny, but it's really about serious discussion.

that being said, if the discussion meanders into a funny area. they are open to it. they like a good laugh as much as the next ilxor.

got nothing to add to this as football weekly and occasionally second captains is all i listen to,just wanted to be needlessly negative and say i hate the football ramble with a passion.

This Podcast Will Kill You a podcast about disease. Really quite informative and each week has a related drink called a quarantini based on some aspect of the disease so you can sip along with it.
Dressed a fashion history podcast.
That Record Got Me High2 guys in Florida discussing a somewhat eclectic bunch of records.
