So what hobbies do your kids have? Last year I decided to take Ophelia to tennis class but it went badly so we quit after the first lesson. She was too shy. This year I enrolled in swimming class - she loves it - and yesterday she went to a dance class. The latter was a catastrophy until someone just took her and demanded (in a soft way) to join in. She loved it. So two activities outside school. This, I think, is enough. More would drain Ophelia. :-)

She also loves to draw these days.
the one who's in kindergarten now has had and enjoyed classes in art and dance. i'd love to find him a filmmaking class, because he already makes these cool little movies using the photo booth app on my macbook. i also want to get him in some kind of music class. i don't think he's really ready to take lessons yet (especially given his speech/communication difficulties), but maybe there's something out there that would work. the younger one, who's about 18 months now, i think i might put him in a tots gym class in the spring. he's pretty agile, loves climbing everything.

My kids like to read and play video games. My eldest daughter likes to create art and write stories. They play with Legos. Besides school + meals there's not time for much else during the week. On weekends we travel together as a family, for instance to parks or museums, plus everyone reads and plays video games. We've enrolled the kids in swimming and acting classes before. It's cool but it gets tiring for everyone.

Reading, all the time. Also hula-hooping, pogo-sticking, skate-boarding, and she wants to enroll in a gymnastics class.
She took piano for a few years. But now she seems unmotivated, so we're taking a break from it.

We let swimming totally slide this year (which is a shame cos, y'know, I could probably do with learning how to do that too!) - work pressures have meant Pam is often in front of the laptop on Sat/Sun and I'm just taking the girls as far as I can on cheap public transport (usually means parks and museums). Ava reads constantly, Lulu has adventures with her bunnies and they both do all manner of pretend stuff. Bikes and tennis rackets have also been neglected this summer.
We'll see what Ava expresses an interest in as her reception year goes on and maybe her involved in after-school stuff but right now they seem pretty contented and rarely bored. Except when they're out with Dad at the weekend.

We take our kindergartner to kung-fu class. There is a kid's class followed an hour or so later by an adult class. He loves it, we love it, and it's a real positive way to spend our time. The school has a really family-oriented atmosphere, so people are always willing to play and talk with him.
I'm going to try to teach him guitar this winter.
His self-directed hobbies include jumping on the bed (he has made it an art form), collecting rocks, and collecting sticks.

More would drain Ophelia. :-)mummy.
Thing is that it wouldn't tire me if I already had my driver's license. I'm not allowed yet to take kids with me in the car, so I have to go with public transportation. Going and coming from dance class take one hour (one way). LE SIGH. Badly need my license. (Also badly need to up my English.)
I've been looking for computer games which teach toddlers how to move the mouse. (This is recommended in the next year or the yr after that). But she loves to sit in front of the comp, so why not teach her some skills while sitting in front of it. Then she can play her own DVDs. ;-)
I actually decided to drag her outside because she was watching too much telly. (Elisabeth is less interested thank god.) As a result of all two activities, she's even more keen to move about. This means going to the park most evenings. hah
