Hi guys, its Friday night at 9:30 and I'm having trouble thinking this through regarding an appropriate course of action in response to what seems like a pretty extreme situation so anybody with any input would be an enormous help to me.
My son just told my wife that during recess today, one of his classmates (who apparently just lost a sister) ran up to the schoolyard fence and started yelling about how she wanted to run out in the road and get hit by a car so she could die and go to heaven with her sister. According to him, no one who saw the incident told any adult at the school about it. J didn't tell us until just now when my wife was trying to get him to sleep. It sounds like a really serious situation for this poor girl. This information really needs to be made aware to school staff and her parents, but being that it's Friday night, I have no idea who to contact or what to do.

if you have a teacher's or counselor's number, call them. if you have the child's parents' number, call them. can't think of any further possibilities

yeah i think you should call this child's parents first, if possible, seeing as we're on the verge of the weekend. it might be an awkward conversation, and they might be defensive, but i think it's worth it to make sure the child is safe.

Just as an update, I was able to contact the principal, who in turn got in touch with the kid's parents and they're all going to work together to support her. Thanks for the advice and support guys.

Ophelia's friend told her she cuts herself. And it's very clear she has an eating disorder. At the last PTA meeting I told the teacher. It is maybe "awkward" but I think it's the right thing. Ophelia is very concerned. I told her she can go to a guidance counselor (sp?). Very proud of her for being concerned. Not many kids that age would realize the implications but she does.

Yeah! She comes across as not caring. But she does. She's just very quiet. I am very proud of her and told her.
