i got this today for a buck --
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DAN-BARBER-WENDY-ANN-CAHOON-Embers-LP-Rare-Progressive-Xian-Rock-Folk-Psych-/360551768901?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item53f28f6345

no complete listings i can see, so i have no idea how accurate that price is. it's probably not very accurate.

the godz 2 & shepp/roach were around $15 each, which is not a bad price for those records. i might keep shepp/roach. and i will buy almost any copy of godz 2 cuz it is one of my favorite records.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Saturday, 11 May 2013 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

i need clean godz 1 & 2 but it'll keep.

scott seward, Saturday, 11 May 2013 20:53 (eleven years ago) link

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Saturday, 11 May 2013 21:13 (eleven years ago) link

Gee I think I put out a copy of godz 2 for $5 or something when I worked at the record store. Maybe a year and a half ago?

Evan, Sunday, 12 May 2013 14:05 (eleven years ago) link

oooops. it's not like the most valuable record in the world. but you don't see it very often, or at least i don't.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Sunday, 12 May 2013 15:27 (eleven years ago) link

but it's so good and weird. i love it. opened my mind up to a lot of stuff when i was younger.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Sunday, 12 May 2013 15:27 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, I'm not worried about it. Probably wasn't in the best shape, or maybe I misremembered the price I had set. Never listened myself...

i am so cheap that a dollar still feels like a lot for a single, but I guess it really isn't that much in 2013 if it's in good condition

hell broke loose in georgia: georgia fiddle bands 1927-1934
chuck johnson - crows in the basilica
old mother hippletoe: rural and urban children's songs

christmas candy bar (al leong), Thursday, 23 May 2013 03:29 (eleven years ago) link

Hell broke loose in Georgia is all killer. Katy did by Lowe stokes and mike whitten is one if the best fiddle records ever made. Plus the Georgia crackers and shores trio. Sooooo good

i bought close to 50 records yesterday from paul major. still going through them. some will be sold and some will be kept. so far the keepers are these --

duster bennet - justa duster (used to own this -- one song i REALLY Like and then some average-to-good whiteboy blues)
alan james eastwood s/t (a lilllll produced but the songs are good)
billy roberts & grits - thoughts of california (obscure rural rock)
VALDY s/t (country rock, cover is a photo of the mans head growing out of a tree.)
marian henderson - cameo (raer aussie acid volk)
2x later albums by medicine head. these are not as good as their best stuff (the "dark side of the moon" album imo) but still have a cpl songs that are good. not worth selling really, no one cares.

i had high hopes for a record by GRIFFIN on Romar, cuz it looked like country rock or rural rock or something but it's way too funky for me :\

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:51 (eleven years ago) link

http://badcatrecords.com/BadCat/GRIFFIN.htm

maybe i should relisten, i didn't listen to much of it at all cuz it sorta sucked. i would like to hear the neil young cover anyway

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:53 (eleven years ago) link

i really like that valdy album. think i listed it on here somewhere.

scott seward, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:53 (eleven years ago) link

also everything was a dollar.
i need to go back. i put back a bunch of mediocre christian folk cuz i was running out of room in my bags to carry stuff home.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:55 (eleven years ago) link

valdy cover reminds me of the gentle giant cover.. lemme see if there's a pic online

alllllso keepers i forgot to mention - both dayle stanley albums. i had the first one but this copy is nicer... apparently "after the snow" is super raer? sells for money anyway. this copy is pretty scuffy and noisy but it's better than paying a lot of money for something i'll only listen to once every 5 years..

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:58 (eleven years ago) link

lol apparently sometimes the dayle stanley rekkerd sells for $20 and sometimes for $100... weird. nothing in the middle.

medicine head rules. at least one of their songwriters does. some kinda low-rent crazyhorse west coast sounds.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:59 (eleven years ago) link

keeping joe south s/t... never heard this one. is great so far. '71.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Friday, 24 May 2013 00:10 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like my senses are off. i don't like most of these so far:

Tight Fit - The Lion Sleeps Tonight / Rhythm, Movement, and Dancing
The Quick - To Prove My Love / Rhythm of the Jungle
Leisure Process - Cashflow / The Emigré 2
Fun Fun - Happy Station
Grace Jones - The Apple Stretching / Nipple To The Bottle
Human League - The Lebanon / Thirteen
Alla Pugacheva - How disturbing is this way
The Tarney / Spencer Band - Three's A Crowd
Ian Matthews - Stealin' Home
Fletch OST
Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick
The Untouchables - Dance Party
Catspaw - Emerald Web
The Screaming Blue Messiahs - Totally Religious
Belt Junior High School Ninth Grade Mixed Choruses And Choraleers & Seventh And Eighth Grade Chorus - Pheb And Zipp (With A Little Help From Their Friends)
John Wayne - America, Why I Love Her
Ian Thomas Band - Goodnight Mrs. Calabash
4 Out Of 5 Doctors - s/t

I feel like something's off, I don't really like a lot of these so far. For example, The Untouchables - I was pretty excited about this one, I figured Stiff Records, Jerry Dammers, this has to be good. It actually blows. And The Quick - I got "Zulu" earlier this month, and it's great, but this other single is just not my thing right now.

Smog - Burning Kingdom
Primordial Undermind - Yet more wonders of the invisible world
Sarah - Sarah and Friends
Throwing Muses - University
Cardiacs - On Land and In the Sea
Richard Wahnfried - Time Actor
Biff Bang Pow! - Oblivion
Peter Green - The end of the game.

pretty pleased with my haul...

Stop the tape I got spittle all over my moustache. (Talcum Mucker), Saturday, 25 May 2013 17:45 (eleven years ago) link

The Bundt record for 2 euros?! I'd be pretty pleased too!
How's the Lakomy? Love his Das Geheime Leben album.

willem, Monday, 27 May 2013 08:39 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah.. the vinyl is near mint, the only problem with the sleeve is there's a some scuffing on the spine... Not that i'm planning on selling it..

The Lakomy is not as good as Das Geheime Leben, there's some great abstract/abrasive electronics at the beginning of side one, and the drum machines are great, but there's a little bit too much cheesy chord action for my taste...

Stop the tape I got spittle all over my moustache. (Talcum Mucker), Monday, 27 May 2013 16:56 (eleven years ago) link
