haha. there's a bunch of really good thrifts in the bay because there are a shitload of good records here. the problem is that there's also a shitload of grippers. i happened to hit the salvation army right as it opened. i guarantee these would not have lasted the day there (maybe not even the morning).

I picked up Doris Duke "I'm a Loser" as well as a nice clean copy of The Harder They Come Soundtrack (from a dollar bin!) among a couple of other things last weekend.

Oh I also got a copy of Toni Basil's "Word of Mouth." I didn't realize that her Devo covers actually feature Devo backing her up.

Trip Maker, Monday, 3 June 2013 20:58 (eleven years ago) link

friend gave me a sealed copy of JEREMY today.

scott seward, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 23:09 (eleven years ago) link

grateful dead bluegrass pickin'. dan healy engineered. i'll listen tomorrow.

scott seward, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 00:29 (eleven years ago) link

hey i got my sealed stephen whynott album in the mail today via discogs! thanks for reminding me ian. one good turn deserves another. sounds awesome on my hi-fi. why both those records aren't big money is beyond me. but i'm not complaining.

scott seward, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 00:32 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, those whynott records are nice. i need abetter copy of 'from philly to tablas' mine is a little scuffy..

i got a bunch of stuff today from this guy on long island. sam mcgee on arhoolie, some late/obscure j. corbitt record, forever more 'words on black plastic' (this kinda rules? is the other record good? it is much more common and looks /awful/ so i never listened to it.) uhh.. what else. clean blue cheer 'outside inside'

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 02:24 (eleven years ago) link

first one is okay. not essential. five bucks or less worth listening to.

scott seward, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 02:27 (eleven years ago) link

i'll get it for a buck at some point.

i revealed the vinyl gift after the jewelry and before the spa gift certificate, it landed a bit better

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 10 June 2013 19:56 (eleven years ago) link

vinyl is only a tough gift tbh because we share the same taste in a lot of things and sometimes a gift for her feels like a secret gift for me (which it is, sometimes.....)

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 10 June 2013 19:58 (eleven years ago) link

More people enjoying the gift = success, not secret failure :)

I have scored nothing recently, but I did get an old Church record (Blurred Crusade) in perfect condition. That was nice.

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 10 June 2013 20:01 (eleven years ago) link

i'm skipping work today because of 'exhaustion' (actual) but might rally and dig for my own vinyl today

I've been buying lots of lounge records, private soft rock records and odd vanity records. I'm going to list them here soon, or maybe just take photos of them, some really beautiful covers.

JacobSanders, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 03:03 (eleven years ago) link

mostly ones you like jacob? any real standouts for us soft-rock dilettantes?

69, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 16:35 (eleven years ago) link

I like all of them, some only have a few really great songs, but those few songs make the record for me. Then again I'm a big fan of Bread and Ambrosia. I'm recording a mix of soft rock/ blue eyed soul rock that I'm almost finished with.

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 01:12 (eleven years ago) link

Bread rules

Trip Maker, Thursday, 13 June 2013 23:07 (eleven years ago) link

i love bread and ambrosia. i'm probably more of a fan of prog ambrosia than pop ambrosia though. though i like their pop stuff fine.
