seriously

no fomo (La Lechera), Friday, 13 September 2013 21:50 (eleven years ago) link

Wasn't even going to so to the swap meet this morning, but I did and ended up with this stuff for seven dollars:

Loretta Lynn - You're Looking at Country ('72)
Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton - Just the Two of Us ('68)
Herman's Hermits - "There's a Kind of Hush" b/w "No Milk Today"
The Tornadoes - "Bustin' Surfboards" b/w "Beyond the Surf" ('62)
Bobby Powell - "That Little Girl of Mine" b/w "C.C. Rider" (Whit, '65)
Don (Soul Train) Campbell - "Campbell Lock" b/w "Campbell Lock (Instrumental)"
The Goodees - "Jilted" b/w "Love Is Here" (Hip, '68)

The Don Campbell one is a funk record. He was a Soul Train dancer who did a dance called the Lock.

The Goodees one is a knockout. Not on Youtube, unfortunately. Closest thing I could compare it to is maybe the Feminine Complex.

i like the goodees album. "condition red" was their big one.

scott seward, Sunday, 15 September 2013 23:08 (eleven years ago) link

I'd like to have everything on Hip records!

JacobSanders, Sunday, 15 September 2013 23:57 (eleven years ago) link

Only a couple of references to "Jilted" on ilx. This is one:

I just got a comp with this on it - IT IS THE GREATEST SONG EVER RECORDED, CONTEMPLATED, OR DANCED TO, BY MAN OR BEAST!

never heard it! I only have a best of Jerry Jeff on CD. you find anything good at that stoop sale on the way to Lavendar Lake?

this was from that one guy's semi-permanent weekend stoop sale at 7th and Union. he's a little bit overpriced but usually has some good stuff.

dmr, Monday, 16 September 2013 16:17 (eleven years ago) link

i got a few things from the park place stoop sale -- it was my buddy miggy selling some of his excess stock. he's an ebay dealer mostly. i didn't get anything for myself, but some stuff to flip at the brooklyn flea record fair in a few weeks

ian, Monday, 16 September 2013 18:06 (eleven years ago) link

jacob, you should check out:
brinsley schwarz - first 4 LPs (esp. silver pistol)
ernie graham - s/t (backed by brinsley schwarz)
frankie miller - once in a blue moon (also backed by brinsley schwarz)

Jeez, where do you find Saccharine Trust records in thrift stores :(

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 19 September 2013 09:09 (eleven years ago) link

^^^^ ???

which one? I really need a copy of Surviving You Always, one of my single biggest "shoulda bought that" regrets.

money, chicken and other DNA (sleeve), Thursday, 19 September 2013 15:57 (eleven years ago) link

that's the one i got!
in brooklyn. weird day. it's a place i don't think i've EVER found records before and usually just check in cuz it's near some other places and sometimes has books i want.

ian, Thursday, 19 September 2013 16:10 (eleven years ago) link

sacc trust album is in what i would consider VG shape on the B side and VG+ on the A side; there is what looks like a bit of groove wear on the last two tracks, some light scuffing etc. i can play it and give you more info if yer interested. cover has a bit of corner creasing and a punch hole.

ian, Thursday, 19 September 2013 16:12 (eleven years ago) link

yes please!

money, chicken and other DNA (sleeve), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:09 (eleven years ago) link

what's the packaging on Nascimento like?

los blue jeans, Friday, 27 September 2013 03:40 (eleven years ago) link

The outer sleeve is a giant oval poster folded into six "squares." The inner sleeve folds, too, but there's no printing on it, and inside is:

- another inner sleeve with the record
- a seven inch
- several colored cards with printing on them about the songs

After you unfold it, folding it all back is like folding a map. It always wants to get fat.

bamcquern, Friday, 27 September 2013 04:22 (eleven years ago) link

oh boy i wish youd asked me before u spent money on oquisha paradox. i think that shit is a requisite mistake for all norcal records people to make.

69, Friday, 27 September 2013 16:53 (eleven years ago) link

lol I bought a couple of Chris Williamson records for a buck each when I first got here, too. The Oquisha Paradox was cheap, so I'm not gonna cry about it. But if you ever wanna give me record advice, feel free to email myilxusern✧✧✧@ya✧✧✧.c✧✧.

bamcquern, Saturday, 28 September 2013 01:24 (eleven years ago) link

xp sounds cool, but a lot of the time i just don't really want to deal with fancy packaging. Eventually I will slip up and tear something

los blue jeans, Saturday, 28 September 2013 03:14 (eleven years ago) link

xp haha will do! thats funny u mention cris w, too -- moe and i had to talk my buddy zack down from buying the cris LP w the weird flying blob-person on it when he visited from NC.
