69, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 21:20 (eleven years ago) link

i'm just bored. the stuff you got at that sale was so cool though.

scott seward, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 21:32 (eleven years ago) link

man, it was! i mean, there is bound to be some cool stuff in these (and the remaining 12 still up in arcata) boxes, too. but like -- i dont think im gonna find too much more stuff on par w the suicide bridge or 24 carat black or shamek farrah...

PROVE ME WRONG O LORD

69, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 21:44 (eleven years ago) link

you might be surprised. i'm always surprised by what's still for sale at the end of the day at a record show or sale or even records sitting in record stores that have obviously been there for a while. most people - even shifty record-selling types - are looking for the same stuff. the weird stuff gets ignored because people don't know what it is.

scott seward, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 23:05 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, im definitely gonna do some research on even the turdiest-looking major-label things!

69, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 23:20 (eleven years ago) link

moe handy is coming over w the kids for pizza tonight, and if anyone besides you can spot some major-label turd diamonds in the rough besides you, scott, it's him.

I was trying to slow my roll a bit because I really just have too many records, but I broke the fast today. Stopped by Goodwill with the excuse of looking for some Halloween costume accessories, dug through the stacks, limited my pile to 9 records and was about to leave when I did a last-minute perimeter sweep. Saw the corner of a 70's Columbia logo in a cardboard box under a table, and ended up with another 90 45s.

Stevens Express sounds crazy

a loving tribute to coworkers without personalities (los blue jeans), Sunday, 20 October 2013 01:14 (eleven years ago) link

I've been working on a lounge mix and I couldn't choose a Stevens Express song that fits, it's such a horribly mundane but completely weird record, so instead I'm going to post the whole record on my blog, along with their only 45.

We saw signs for an estate sale way out in the country in a barn and decided to go. They had boxes of 45s and I went all of them. It was mostly country, doo wop, 50's teen pop, stuff I know nothing about, so I bought all of the off label stuff I found and just found this in the stacks along with early Mickey Gilley and a few early canjun 45's. Still sorting through them.
