i like them! my favorite in my collection is the '68 comeback 'paper boy blues' 10". i don't have many of them because there just aren't many out there that i really want, but they're good. what i do find unusual is when a record is issued in both 12" and 10" (like the new bonnie prince billy). also, radiohead only issuing kid a, amnesiac, and the live album on 10" was interesting.

Then, it dawned on me: "I HAVE BEEN PLAYED!" (omar little), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 15:33 (fifteen years ago) link

what kind of savage do you have to be to not appreciate my big ten inch record?

shit yes, forgot about that one

Like all those Black Flag singles reissued in 7", 10" & 12"! WTF. SST can get those in print constantly but they can't do a reissue of the Dicks LP?

These are all mine:

stretchheads - barbed anal exciter
ashley von hurter & the haters - s/t
hard skin - fucking skins
skeptics - sensible shoes
breeders - head to toe
man... or astro-man - your weight on the moon
man... or astro-man - 1000x
groove farm - driving in your new car
low - murderer
spectrum - covers
dj downfall - into the quagmire
gossip - listen up!
tall dwarfs - 3 EP's
blood sausage - happy little bullshit boy
matthew sweet - into your drug
lung leg - hello sir

I like 10"s. I don't have any odd sized records. Oh wait I have a Shitbirds 5". But apart from that just 7, 10 & 12.

i have some yma sumac and tom lehrer 10 inches from a bazillion years ago. i think the only modern 10 inch i have is this totally unwanted g. love promo on Okeh that the record company stooge gave me as swag (uh thanks?) when i was working at the record shop in the early 90's.

should probably see if thats worth anything, it is decidedly unplayed.

most 78s are 10"

I like 10" i guess, but i hardly ever listen to 'em

ian, Thursday, 16 July 2009 00:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I love this format. Lots of good ones by Coil, Climax Golden Twins, Stereolab, Volcano The Bear, etc. There was also a great Beck 10". And that "Short Circuit" record with Joy Division. And that Beta-Lactam series, and some really good Virgin Prunes records.

See... I'll readily acknowledge that there are great 10"s, but that doesn't make me any more likely to reach for my box of 'em and put one on.

Just for the hell of it--favorites:

Landed - Hit The Land/Why I Live
Charalambides - Ana/Kata
Born Against - battle hymns of the race war (hope i still have this!)
bardo pond - slab
moondog & his honking geese 10" (the other moondog 10" on honest jons is good too.)

ian, Friday, 17 July 2009 16:15 (fifteen years ago) link

two years pass...

i was looking at my 10 inches, and realize they're all good:

Panik Problem Produkt
Basement 5-Silicone Chip
Fall-Slates
Pavement-PSF
Asmus Tietchens-Rattenheu
Bovine Over Sussex W-Car Park Attendant Playset
Short Circuit
The North Is Protected comp w/book

Beequeen-Sandancing Demos
Those Were Different Times 3x10" comp
Schlammpeitziger-Freundlichbaracudaremix

where do you keep your 10"s? where do you keep Metal Box?

i need 10" record shelves for my 78s.

one dis leads to another (ian), Saturday, 27 August 2011 20:07 (thirteen years ago) link

i forgot probably my favorite 10"--Eno's Empty Landscapes bootleg--because it came in a 12" sleeve.

78s must be challenging. no spines, etc.

nerve_pylon, Saturday, 27 August 2011 20:14 (thirteen years ago) link

i group 'em by artist with little dividers. kinda crude but it works.

one dis leads to another (ian), Saturday, 27 August 2011 20:25 (thirteen years ago) link

i keep my 10"s in the expedit, in one particular cubby. metal box, i keep in paper sleeves in a plastic bag, with the actual box on top of the shelf. i keep all my bootleg taj-mahal travellers LPs in their individual plastic jackets then in one large plastic sleeve for days when i just want to get it all out there.

I don't have that many and you can tell by looking at the list what era I was mainly buying 10"s

Archers of Loaf vs the Greatest of All Time
Grifters - Eureka EP
Grifters - early EP reissue, can't remember the name
Strapping Fieldhands - In the Pineys
Those Were Different Times
Breeders - Head to Toe EP (w/ covers of Freed Pig and Shocker in Gloomtown)
Further - Grimes Golden EP
+ a weird spoken word medical lecture record about alcoholism

think that's it? oh wait I think I have Red Hot + Bothered which was a two-volume indie rock AIDS benefit thing that had Uncle Tupelo, Grifters, Built to Spill on it. Unless I sold it.

10"s have their own cubby hole in the storage unit (I'm guessing probably similar to the 'Expedit'). Metal Box shares a cubby with my stereo test albums/box sets/shaped vinyl.
