but, you know, doesn't have to be something worth a ton. just stuff that you would never want to part with barring some financial catastrophe.

That was the first Coltrane I ever heard, 'Out Of This World' was a total gateway to another dimension for me, love that thing so much. Great call!

My father once got me an album by a New Orleans musician named Willie Humphrey. He was on a business trip there, and must have picked it up on the street 'cause he knew I liked records. Geez, every time I see that record I think of dad.

first uni summer. working at the faversham in leeds (hipsterish kind of club/venue). futureheads first big show, kind of disillusioned with leeds and uni as a whole, guy wearing plants round his neck, young me says wtf. old school friend who got me the job invites me back for mushroom tea. drink a lot of that. watch family guy. sun comes up. taxi home, meet next door neighbour who was getting home at the same time. hippy tin foil type of dude, lovely though. he has more shrooms and weed. we bond on his front doorstep. head inside. i suggest koyaanisqatsi. we watch that. retire to my room for chats about lucid dreaming, the world and buddhist stuffs. can't sleep now, mushrooms taking over. sun beaming through the windows. i suggest some chill music. i put la monte on. we take turns turning the record over. i can't really describe it but the chords were floating and time become irrelevant. truly magical, much laughter, more shrooms.. tiny pieces at a time. sleep-not-sleep, blissful states. somehow it's four in the afternoon and there's a dog outside my bedroom door. we take it for a walk through meanwood valley, apprently it belongs to my housemate's parents who are visiting for the day. only found this out a few days later. i really can't describe how the music sounded. music to me always had abstract shapes, forms and patters, this didn't. it just existed in the same way as the sunlight, the room we were in and the tress outside. every time the record stopped it bummed us out. incredible experience. the last time i did any drugs like that and the only time i heard the well tuned piano in its entirety.

two more: my buzzcocks box set (i've owned all the albums seperately, but the box vinyl is just so nice and pretty. i think it only came out in the u.k. plus, it has the album collecting those last lsd-soaked singles.)
maybe even more importantly, my major force box set on mo' wax. one of my favorite things on earth. so beautiful, so brilliant. i've played those records a zillion times and they still sound as great as ever. once, maria's family was around, maybe for a holiday, and i went to bed while everyone was still up drinking and when i got up in the morning i saw the box set lying open next to a table covered with empty beer bottles and one record still on the turntable and i thought about leaving maria forever. hahaha, okay, maybe not forever. but i did want to kill her. a little. i mean, it might have gotten a drop of beer on it!
