Are any of you also fans / collectors of 7-inches, or as we used to call them, 45s? If so, what 45s have you listened to lately? I have indies plus tons of oldies.

i have a love/hate relationship with singles. cuz they're an awesome thing to collect in theory, but i almost never listen to them at home, and don't DJ out enough to make it worth cultivating a collection for bar-play or whatever. but lately, um, i dunno. the Aran Ruth single is pretty cool. i bought a replacement copy of the Witches & The Warlock "The Wanderer"/"Nowhere To Run" 45, which is a favorite of mine.
A while back I did score copies of the Dead C's first single and the Meat Puppets first as well. Typically I don't think I've listened to them more than a few times, and they're now sitting in the box along with the other singles I don't listen to but can't force myself to get rid of.

bottom of the world is, and this is probably obvious, wayyyy too short.

even at 33rpm, you're probably right. just keen to finally get a listen to some Surface of the Earth, even if the medium don't suit. £2.99 each ain't a bad price anyway.

I am excited because I dug out a few boxes of 7-inches and I have "You Little Trustmaker" still in its sleeve and played only about twice! They have value again now that I can rip them. I don't understand how I went from thinking that 45s were the greatest thing ever to, by 2000 or so, thinking they were a royal pain in the butt. I hope they will regain their charm for me.

I also have a pile of Stiff and assorted post-punk 7-inches that I found in one giant heap IN A THRIFT STORE and they are sooo cute!

Got some really nice condition copies of some of the Honey Cone singles on Hot Wax recently and, man, these are some really great sounding records. Apart from the big hit, really like "Girls It Ain't Easy" and "Stick Up."

a well-mastered 45 can be a beautiful thing. you really do notice such an improvement in sound quality.

45s rule. The other thing about them is that they can look beat to shit and still sound good.
Like, 45s if I was grading on an LP scale I would rate as "good" or "fair", can still sound pretty OK and even good. durable little suckers

xpost yeah, it's 'jukebox play only' on a generic Capitol brown label. too cool... i'm surprised they still made jukebox 45s in 1996, I thought they had all converted to CDs by that point.
