it's a long shot, but does anyone know what a copy of the Allen-Ward Trio on Vanguard sells for? 1965. Stereolab copy. Good shape. I've never actually seen one before. Group with David Rea on guitar. I can't find a copy anywhere online. maybe i'm not looking hard enough. okay, that's not true anymore. found ONE copy on musicstack going for $250. i find that hard to believe.

anyway, this can be an all-purpose thread for questions of price. you see something tempting on someone's wall and yer wondering if its worth yer hard earned cashola.

Can't you price roughly according to genre, label and year and then cross your fingers you didn't screw up?

i think you should charge $75 or 3x what you paid for it, whichever is higher.

Someone paid 7.50 for it on ebay in 2003.

what would i do without you, J? wow, they got lots of funky records. and you figure they are all inflated by 5 or 10 bucks on average. soooo, i should sell the copy i have for 15 or so. half of which goes to my brother cuz i dug it out of his crazy stacks. and that is how we work things.

depends on yer clientele! you said punk records are hot sellers in yer shop cuz, so i'd say go for $25 and if it sits for a week or two move it down to $20.

you know what, i'm gonna go with 20. i think that's fair. and i'll make someone's month. first pressing without the black flag on the cover goes for about 20. nice to see one with the sticker though. very cool. kinda want to stick it somewhere.

all i really need are sun ra records, punk records, and bob dylan records and i will be in business forever apparently.

is it worth more than an original u.k. pressing? cuz those sell for like 30 on ebay. but maybe it is. might actually be harder to find than a u.k. virgin copy.

last one on popsike seems to have gone for 30 some-odd euros or pounds or someshit. i'm gonna hold on to it and see if i can find the right pressing to match it up.

i got the rec records version two years ago at wfmu for $20. i dont know why it would go up if your mixing two pressings. yeah i'd hold on to it.

this is sort of a place holder, since when i am less tired i can go into a big rant, but the owner of "strictly discs" in madison, wisconsin is the most assholish record-store owner i have ever encountered. today he gave me a 10-minute lecture about LP pricing (which made no sense natch). sort of a record-store equivalent of a used-car salesman. fuck that guy.

some people are just really out of touch. they're hard to deal with cuz they really think they know what they're talking about but are so often guided by things like goldmine & record collector magazine. something is only worth as much as you can sell it for--i don't care if yer seventies elvis picture sleeve is "mint" it ain't worth more than a couple bucks.

i just sold an elvis picture disc for 15 bucks. i gave the guy a good overall deal for the stuff he bought though. i LOVE older collectors who buy the chubby checker records i've had sitting around forever. and the annette funicello 45s. god bless them for real!

Funny, combine two of the above: I recently bout ChubCheck's "Let's Twist Again" album, original green parlophone UK, and the inner sleeve was the very same multicoloured Sgt Pepper inner!

I believe the Capitol ones had the sleeve above as well, so here goes:

The Beatles albums sold plenty when first out, so they are only worth decent sums if they are close to excellent in appearance and play quality, sleeve/inners (and insert) included. (Prices go exponential the closer they get to mint)

30 bucks sounds a bit high for yours. Check e-bay completed auctions is yr best bet.

i'd say closer to $20 for a VG mono peppers. is the jacket in nice shape? inserts?

i just don't see them much around. most stores put their nice copies up for auction. so i was gonna go a little high just cuz...i don't know why. cuz i don't see them for sale around here! but i think 20 will equal quick sale/happy customer.

found a minty hendrix r u experienced early reprise stereo (tri-color label, blah, blah) and put 20 on that. have NO misgivings there. clean early stereo hendrix albums i hardly ever find. cuz people liked to party with jimi.

return of the third tower was available earlier this year on the drag city website, but isn't now. maybe they found warehouse copies? it wasn't just a glitch, though, cause i got one!

i mean, i think that you should start most stuff that you expect to sell for $10-50 at 9.99... lots of people here have more experience selling than me, though, so im curious to see what everyone else thinks.

i sold some extra copies of the trio on ebay earlier this year. #1 went for $20-something, the others for around $10. i should have sold them a couple years back when they were going for $60-$70 per. oh well. missed the boat on my murder city devils LPs too.

what about these 4 lomax ballad hunter library of congress records i have. do i just slap 20 bucks on them or should i ebay? none for sale on ebay which is a good sign.

those ballad hunter records are rare but i don't think they're particularly desirable.. i bought my complete set for $50.

ended up cracking the seal on the bare knuckles LP. inner sleeve and label both giveaways that it's the reissue. oh well.

yeah but i have never seen either -- i just can't imagine walking away from anthems in eden regardless of price or reissue status. would buy in an instant!! it's one of my favorites.

that's not terribly underpriced, really. there are a lot of 'early music' records out there and not too many people collecting that stuff. you can get tons of similar stuff on the Music Heritage Society label for just a few bucks.

Ahaaaaa...all the better for me, then! I got The Art of the Netherlands box for like $6 not too long ago.

skott you should really check out my guys at YESTERDAY'S NEWS in Riverside, RI sometime. crazy dude who runs an antique store but also has tons of record, most of which are $1. and he gives you bulk discounts on top of that. hit or miss, but if you get to him at the right time there are lots of gems. i bought a bunch of 'fake latin' records. cha cha, mambo stuff. mancini goes latin.

i need to go to lots of places but i never have time to go anywhere. and i always have too much to handle for little old me. but i like going places in theory.

boobies have saved the $$$ value of many a terrible record.

yeah i don't actually know if its the cheesecake factor with that record. might just be a known audiophile thing. it did sound very nice. good record all around.
