Diggy Tal & The Numbers "if it's love that you want". i have this 12" that's not mentioned. great slo-mo beardy disco

Zee - Identity. this is rick wright of PF and the singer of Fashion (a band who i dig) doing sort of a weird cosmic new wave album. it's got a few cool tracks.

Sadistic Mika Band. super great funky jap rock.

Love - Out Here. i only remember this because it has a side long drum solo. sampled breaks all over it.

Love album is up there.

Third Ear Band, Harper, Ayers, Pink Floyd, and Pretty Things albums are all great. Tons of shit here that I haven't heard.

I love the Quatermass record .. I just listened to it a couple weeks back. I have the Repertoire CD and the Harvest LP (US pressing).

the Pete Brown / Battered Ornaments / Piblokto records rule pretty hard too

as does all the other obvious stuff, of course ...

I might pull out those East of Eden records tonight, haven't heard them in a while

Sing Brother Sing has both 'There's No Vibrations, But Wait' and 'Out Demons Out' on it, which are the strongest songs the Edgar Broughton Band ever did, so definitely search that. (Although actually, on second look, 'Out Demons Out' seems to only exist as a bonus track on the recent reissue - so where did it come from originally?)

The Sadistic Mika Band record is also wonderful.

Obviously search the Barrett and the Pretty Things. Perhaps not quite so obviously search the Kevin Ayers?

Talking of Portugal, and the Pretty Things, for a while in the mid-80s, just as I was learning to drink in pubs, one of The Pretty Things started coming into my local. We were fairly standard issue indie kids and very impressed with someone who colud tell us first-hand tales ofo swinging 60s London. Last I heard of him he was off to Portugal to (I think) become a goatherd.

Is anyone up for defending Barclay James Harvest?

i am! i like their records a lot. i used to think i only liked the earliest stuff, but i kinda like most of it. i've been listening to baby james harvest all week. such a great guitar album.

this thread is reminding me of this guy who came into the store a couple weeks ago. i asked him what kind of records he was looking for and one of the things he mentioned was that he collected "pink island stuff". i was like, yeah, that's cool. i wanted to say, jeez, good luck finding anything in a record store, cuz most record dealers probably have their "pink islsnd stuff" up on ebay. same with their "vertigo stuff".

i have this john townley record. it's okay. not great though.
