hey y'all, just got back from Thanksgiving at my parents house' and found my stash of kiddie records that I kept from when I was a kid. along with The Count Counts and On Top of Spaghetti, I saved my collection of [i]Let's Pretend[i] records - an amazing radio-play series of fairy tales and chilren's literature acted out with full sound effects, music and everything. I'd listen to these for days - pure imagination mind movies, which is what the best children's records provide.
And they had super 70s psychedelic covers too -

post your favorites, memories, phonographs, anything to do w/ the greasy kids' stuff.

We have that Popeye picture disc at the store where I work right now.
IMO, the best kid record I am aware of is this Seasame Street record full of funky soul:

This one has a nice album jacket by Michael Hurley, who I believe recorded for the same label:

yeah they all burned up in a barn fire along with the masters, kind of puts a damper on things!

but great, now I have another impossible-to-find LP to seek out for my Hurley collection.

oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about... if anyone has kids or wants to check 'em out, mp3s here - http://www.artsreformation.com/records/ . I loaded them up on my daughter's new mp3 player so I don't have to flip (or wear out) the records anymore.
and they're extra great because they're from the 70s or earlier so not sanitized or PC - people are mean and violent, witches and giants are scary. we haven't let her listen to Bluebeard yet (which terrified me as a kid), so Bluebeard: The Record has taken on the same forbidden allure of Bluebeard's locked room in the story ;)

completely forgot but I was traumatised by that as well, probably listened to most of them via library loan. I still get flashes of the Bluebeard feeling when I watch CSI .
also on that page WAHT • POS 1039 Lauren Bacall reads James Thurber's The 13 Clocks (Part 1) mp3s • POS 1040 Lauren Bacall reads James Thurber's The 13 Clocks (Part 2) mp3s
funnest read out loud book
