My record shelf just collapsed

One of the planks split lengthwise, causing each row below it to rip out its brackets.

I will need a new shelf.

No immediate casualties noted but I wouldn't be surprised if I find some cracked or broken records in the near future :|

I am going to worry about it tomorrow.

i worry about this happening all the time. were they ikea shelves?

psychgawsple, Monday, 7 December 2009 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

they were not ikea shelves... just some wooden thing that came along with a record buy a few years ago. the brackets just weren't sturdy enuff in the long run :(

how many lps do you have?

omar little, Monday, 7 December 2009 22:22 (fifteen years ago) link

i had a record shelf collapse a couple of years ago. it was an ikea shelf, but not the expedit; it was just a generic shelf that happened to hold records perfectly. i pulled out 'the sensual world' and the thing just fell sideways. somehow all of the records remained in perfect shape because the shelf bent and didn't quite break, but it was still pretty disastrous, i didn't have a decent shelf for another year.

i have maybe 2k LPs. a lot of them are on a second smaller shelf, and shelf built into the wall. and by a lot i guess i mean like 500-600.

my room is oddly shaped so i think custom-building them myself might be the way to go. access to all kinda space & power tools in the basement of work.

This type of thing is the worst.

I had a book shelf collapse onto records leading to some little tears and stuff in the centre of the top record spines. damage from things like that seems a lot less annoying in the long run compared to records where the cover gets ripped or delammed peeling off stickers though.
