actually, *did* that Gories LP ever come out on vinyl originally? I have the CD on Cherry Red, bought when it first came out because I've been a massive Gories fan ever since the first issue of 'Houserockin'. but I think I Know you Fine..' on the original Cherry Red issue may have been only on CD? but then i think Crypt reissued it with a lamer cover

thanks for this thread skot, it swings like "dalai lama"

Religious Embolism (WmC), Thursday, 18 March 2010 03:37 (fourteen years ago) link

i'll be totally honest and admit i've never heard a lick of any of the music on this thread except the chris bell album (because it was compared to dennis wilson). i've never really thought it'd be my thing. i'm not really into power pop or anglo styled stuff (never listened to the kinks either!), but.... where should i start?

jaxon, Thursday, 18 March 2010 04:34 (fourteen years ago) link

the Big Star albums - #1 Record and Radio City (reissued together on one CD) and Third aka Sister Lovers (way more dark and fucked up but a lot of people's favorite)

Jaxon -- you should totally at least try one of the three classik LPs that are out there on new reissues. Get "Radio City" -- it's totally classic, you will love it! i think! There is an available recent 180 gram reish. beaut mix of power-pop and depresso dirges, top ten all-time stuff

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 18 March 2010 05:12 (fourteen years ago) link

third sounds up my alley. i actually just went to facebook and since all anyone could talk about was this, and post vids, i've remedied this situation. guess what? i actually like this a lot! especially the slower darker songs.

jaxon, Thursday, 18 March 2010 05:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Yay!

i love you but you are such a goofball.

RIP Alex. 16 years old to 59 years old... 43 years of rock and roll.

i love you but you are such a goofball.

steve, u talking to me or alex? because, if i remember, you never listened to the beatles until last year

jaxon, Thursday, 18 March 2010 15:44 (fourteen years ago) link

I never listened through the Beatles ***ALBUMS*** as an adult until this year... quite quite different imo.

But you, my friend, are just plain goofy. Maybe if he had used an arpeggiator on some old 12" you'd be blogging about it. You know he went disco for a short while too right?

He used to sing a great version of "Disco Lady."

but i don't listen to disco anymore!
