i guess i don't count box sets. i just plunked down $55 on a super eagles LP. most i've ever spent. before that i payed $40 for a blue sky boys double LP. this was before you could buy everything on the interweb. generally i don't like to spend more than $25 on anything, on principle.

I feel like we did this once, didn't we? when prince's black album was a newly-known thing I got a Warner Bros Italy pressing, probably a promo (either that or a VERY artful bootleg) of that -- supposedly the ones that'd been pressed up before he recalled the album. set me back a cool hundred. it was a bracing feeling to spend half a paycheck on an LP, but "bob george" felt worth twice that the first time it spun in my room.

a little short of A$300 for the riptides first 45, when they were called the numbers. and slightly less than that for mint copies of 'the new record by my bloody valentine' and the manic street preachers 45 on caff

La Monte Young's Black Album, $80

spent somewhere around $300 each for Richard Maxfield's 'Electronic Music' lp on Advance, and Wolf Vostell's 'De/Collage'

This is a tuff question for me cuz I usually trade for high priced items.

expensive records i own:
la monte young - well tuned piano box
peter grudzien - the unicorn
trees - the christ tree
some hurley records. i paid $80 for my copy of Hi-Fi Snock on ebay.

About £35 for The Carpettes - Small Wonder 7".

I don't often go much over £10 tbh.

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:59 (fourteen years ago) link

GBP 34.99 for Vibr4cathedral Orchestra 7", probably close to 80 bucks with postage & all. completed the set.

close to 50$ plus postage for Plagal Grind EP, these are eBays, I don't hardly never mess with premium priced retail goods

i hope that wasn't the 'girls with rocks in their hands' single, i'd sell mine for much much less than that!

I paid $50 for the 45 of betty harris break in the road on ebay. i had to have it and have gotten a lot of use out of it. worth it, imo.

think the most i've paid was $50 (in store) for Patrick Cowley's pre italo, post punk group Indoor Life. then i found a later pressing of it, with more songs for ~$10 that i sent to ilxor dmr.

spent $40 on Dennis Wilson's "Pacific Ocean Blue" & This Heat's "s/t"

$30 (sonic boom's spectrum). rarely go higher than $15

Wow, I have no idea. Probably not more than $20, for any 2LP/2CD sets. I think I paid about $26 for Anthony Braxton's Willisau (Quartet) 1991, which was 4CDs, and about £25 (at a shop in London) for Brötzmann's first Chicago Octet/Tentet release on Okka.

Box sets are another matter -- I think my record for one release was an even $100 for Zappa's Old Masters Box One. This was in 1985 when I was newly married and flat-ass broke, so shelling out a hundred bucks was a huge deal at the time.

there's a 12" on discogs for $60 (way less than the other copies available) that i've been wanting to buy for months but can't bring myself to do it

i paid 80-something for Jamie Principle "Your Love" on Persona, although i think it was partially funded by an eBay gift card. i rarely go over $20.

I know I answered this on some other thread. early on I bought a copy of V.U.'s "White Light White Heat" for $40 (before I knew any better, I've seen it for cheaper many times since then)

nowadays I don't usually go over about $25 but I splurge sometimes when I'm on vacation. last time I was in Europe I got Ashra "Blackouts" for about $35 and Dynastie Crisis s/t for $30 (awesome album) but that's partly cuz I was getting screwed on the exchange rate.

$300 nz for the throbbing gristle 5 album box, which i can rationalise to myself by dividing by five. other than that a toss up between the transatlantic pressing of the fugs' "it crawled into my hand, honest" and the local pressing of "tanz der lemminge" (by amon dull ii according to the spine) both of which were in the region of $90 nz.

$30 on Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka in 1989.
