got a decent u.s. mono copy of Satanic Majesties. Never heard it in mono before. this sounds great! think i prefer it now to stereo. I dunno, I have a nice u.s. stereo copy, i'll have to dig it out and see why i say that. just sounds less cluttered or something. more oomph. the songs sound simpler and cooler.

this is a thread for stones vinyl talk.

my copy of December's Children (pre-86 abkco release) has the weirdest "stereo" separation i've ever heard anywhere--like all bass on the one channel and then drums & vocals on the other. just tossin' that out for no apparent reason, obviously.

it's kinda dubby now that i think of it.

there should be a list of stones stereo pressings to avoid. some of the 60's american copies are unbelievably bad.

i inherited my ma's copy of satanic majesties with the psychedelic hologram sleeve. used to spend hours staring at that cover when i was small, and the trippy gatefold inner collage that i guess was mandatory for all albums released in 1967, trying to make my way around the "it's here" maze. also has the red inner sleeve. it's a mono version on decca and sounds great

i've got a few more stones things that i got from my ma -- they all have birthday wishes from her parents written on the sleeve in biro

satanic majesties is the only clean one though. i guess they must've thought the sleeve just too handsome to scribble over

this thread makes me want to chuck the majority of my stones vinyl & upgrade. it's true that sound is important, and there is so much bad early stereo.

almost all of their stuff sounds better with a good copy. it took me years to find a great original exile. not like i was looking every day or something, i just went through some copies until i found a trooo keeper. it sounds amazing.

realize that sounds pretty obvious. you should buy good copies of things! its easy to buy what is at hand if you want something and its cheap. and you get used to things. its worth it to search for better examples though. this is actually the sad thing that collectors do after they have been collecting for years. if they have any money. they go back and find clean copies of everything they really like. or try to.

By then they know which ones matter.

three years pass...

if I see an upside-down 3d imagine on a copy of "Satanic Madge" does this mean OMG collector rare, or just some kid glued it back on?
