Years ago someone recommended me the cleaning fluid and brush technique, but I no longer have the fluid or brush. There are also the new fancy high tech poly bubbles, and then the electronic/ultrasonic cleaners which are hard to come by and $$$ and possibly not even being made very much any more.
Should all of this stuff be relegated to the "Awesome Audiophile Snake Oil" thread, or does anyone have good experiences they can share? Audio geek forums scare me, hoping to get some input and opinions here.
My motivation for looking into this is because I need a new needle and don't have $200, I'm hoping that some cleaning will extend its usable life.

I would like to know more about cleaning fluid and brushes too. Can anyone recommend a particular brand or are they pretty much all the same?

i just use discwasher brush and fluid. when i run out of fluid i just use water and alcohol. but sometimes i'm lazy and just use a record cleaning cloth and water.

if you look around you can find better price maybe. usually 13 dollars and up for the standard package. but, like i said, i only really need the brush. you can make your own cleaning solution.

thanks folks but I am talking about things like this, used for cleaning needles (as opposed to the records themselves):

any further info would be most welcome! and of course all record cleaning ideas can go here too, but I really want to know about these electronic stylus cleaners that are supposed to remove long term buildup from needles.

oh. that's different.

it's really not that hard to keep a needle clean. but, yeah, any of those brush/fluid packs probably work fine. cost like ten bucks. you can get canned air for a turntable too. for dust in cracks and corners.

Thanks! I was gonna start with a brush & fluid combo and keep my eyes out for a cheap electronic one. I can't really get behind the polymer bubble idea. Anything to prolong the life of my expensive needle that I really don't wanna have to replace any time soon.
