i was just gonna put on a warner brothers comp called *Hard Goods*. the only place you can find Terry Melcher AND Graham Central Station. or Osibisa and Kiss for that matter.

man, I had an opportunity to get a whole pile of loss leaders once and I passed. kinda regret that.

warner brothers comp is the only other place - other than the 45 - where you can get this song on vinyl:

so you neil completists need a copy!

^ ya, kind of a let down... There's a bunch of Canadian comps that are cool for getting Canrock and Can-disco jams... That Neosonic comp looks Canadian.

it is!

it goes without saying that german comps from the 70's and the 80's are the best in the world. insane italo and german disco and german disco rock and everything else under the sun.

scott seward, Saturday, 28 August 2010 18:41 (fourteen years ago) link

i just got a german comp of new german music from 1982 from my brother and it has einsturzende neubaten AND fred from jupiter on it! talk about a clash of the titans!

"20 Chartstoppers" sounds incredible! I don't collect vinyl so much anymore but I do break for comps, a lot of the material is rare or expensive on CD or is some bad re-recording on mp3. The comps always have some weird stuff on them.

i just like barbecue rib, whatever (u s steel), Saturday, 28 August 2010 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link

A nice oldies comp to pick up if you see it is "Butterball of WDAS presents 20 oldies designed with young lovers in mind!" because it has BB doing a bit of hip dj patter in the intro

i had a butterball 45 from the 60's that is just straight-up old school rap. amazing. if its the same butterball.

you can get this on cd now. but i felt real good when it came to mind, and that they got around to putting it out on cd way after the fact doesn't seem to diminish its value as a rad-weird-comp-record

Not exactly weird, but this compilation got me into The Stooges in the late 1980s:

4 songs from "The Stooges" and 5 from "Funhouse". Cool (if rather redundant!).

one month passes...

Does anyone have that First Vibration album from the late '60s, put out by an organization called Do It Now Foundation? That has one of my two favorite Peanut Butter Conspiracy songs on it, "Roses Gone." There's a different version of that song on the Spreading from the Ashes CD, but the version on this comp is awesome (and never, to my knowledge, on any other release).

Worth getting if you see it cheap for that!

collected a buttload of Crypt-associated Slop'n'Roll comps back around '90 like Wavy Gravy, Sin Alley, Desperate Rock'n'Roll, Las Vegas Grind, etc. don't know which ones ever made it to CD, but the weirdest has to be

wretched BAD songs that get more unbearable and rofltastic as it goes on.
includes the immortal 'Daddy Frog'
