I don't check Pickle Bar anymore ... I don't have enough time... anyway, I respect the taste of the posters here better ... I have a bunch of choices, but need a quick decision!! (I waited too long to post this thred.) all these shows are *tonite* but this should be a running thred

1. Moon Duo
2. Sic Alps/Magic Markers
3. Chris Potter Trio
4. Nachtmystium
5 Pierced Arrows

I don't know what to do??

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 3 October 2010 02:49 (fourteen years ago) link

actually, fuck it, I'm going to Nachtmystium. it is 3 blocks from my house. haven't heard the new album yet, but the three blocks will win out every time. I saw Pierced Arrows when I went to Portland in April. and Chris Potter is also playing again tomorrow at the Jazz Showcase. much as I have a woody for all things Drag City, tonite Nachtmystium it is..

pierced arrows, if yer a dead moon fan. they play lotsa dead moon material, in my experience. 2nd choice is a tie between moon duo & magic markers. when the markers are on, they're awesome, but when they're off it can be a bit third-rate sonic youth.

also I saw Wooden Shjips a couple weeks ago. don't think i rly *NEED* to see Moon Duo, do i? or do i??

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:17 (fourteen years ago) link

oh ha x-post, nobody responded when I posted and then there was Ian

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

now you are making me second guess

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't care much for sic alps. metal is always fun live.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't rly know Sic Alps at all .. but I am Siltbreeze stan so of course my radar gets hit. listened to clips online and, yeah, nothing too exciting

Magic Markers, same thing, clips didn't rly excite me!

have you seen Moon Duo live?

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:21 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, they can be kinda boring honestly. mellow anyway. not so much rock action.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:22 (fourteen years ago) link

ok cool, i think that seals it for me.

Nachtmystium it is

i can walk there. and everything else will cost me $$ in cabs ( i hate the CTA)

I already saw Wooden Shjips (who were AWESOME), but your Moon Duo intel is helpful, IJ, i appreciate it

I think i can miss it

Dead Moon is one of my like all-time fave bands, but when I saw Pierced Arrows in Portland, I don't recall them playing any DM stuff! i dunno, I love them so much, but I might need to take a pass tonite

probably try to check Potter's matinee set tomorrow at the Showcase, if NFL football doesn't get in the way...

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:28 (fourteen years ago) link

I've seen Markers play good and bad. last time sorta bad

vote Pierced Arrows altho I've never seen em

er xpost

dmr, Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:30 (fourteen years ago) link

alright, fuck it, I'm going to Pierced Arrows ... you only live once and Fred and Toody aren't getting any younger .. I gotta be there... I will pump money into the local economy via chicago cab co

thx guys for the feedback!

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:37 (fourteen years ago) link

and while we're here, should i go to the aussie meat pie shop in the city? kev is working so free pies, beer... but, taking the subway late is gonna suck, i already ate dinner, and i'm tired and alreayd kinda drunk.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Sunday, 3 October 2010 03:40 (fourteen years ago) link

love sic alps best of these bands as of now, but dead moon best over the span of their career. sometimes dead moon shows go on for like 90min too long, though, and you feel guilty cause these 70yr olds are making you guilty for being tired.

69, Sunday, 3 October 2010 05:50 (fourteen years ago) link

should i go to the WFMU record fair next weekend? i've never been. but i'm worried that it's going to be overrun w/ hipsters rummaging through dollar racks. and then there's the whole which day question. worth the trip down from cambridge?

nerve_pylon, Friday, 15 October 2010 02:39 (fourteen years ago) link
